I agree!
Letting candidates run unopposed is a bad idea
Yes, I’ve owned a variety of cars myself. In my younger days, I ran mostly old VWs, because I could work on them. I really have only the slightest preference for Fords, but it’s fun to keep the old rivalry alive. I have known people, though, who had serious loyalty to Ford or Chevy, and it’s amusing.
Vehicles do all wear out eventually, true.
I’ve worked on American, French, Italian, British, German, Japanese and Korean cars. Except for the Italians, they are all basically the same. The Fiat I had (X1/9) I spent more time UNDER it than I did IN it.
Took out the motor and found that the pistons had been installed backwards. Electrical wiring was a nightmare. Must have been wired by an escapee from an insane asylum. The headlights here hidden, like on a Corvette or Firebird and would come on all by themselves and pop up and down going down the road, sometimes just one. The wipers would work in dry weather but not rain. But it was a fun car to drive when it ‘worked’.........................
IMO BMW’s are the easiest to work on. Everything is laid out like the BMW engineers took maintenance into consideration. The parts cost a fortune however and that is why BMW stands for Bring Money With you.
Bring My Wrenches.....................
My dad had a Fiat 124, which was a blast to drive, but I never so much as changed the oil on it. He almost bought an X1/9, but from what you say, I’m glad he didn’t. Neat looking car, though.
I really liked the X1/9. Even considered buying another, years later when Bertone took over the car from Fiat...............
