Richard Overton, America's oldest living veteran, participated in the Veterans Day parade in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday, posing for selfies from the passenger seat of a slow-moving car along the parade route.

Chances are, the 108-year-old World War II veteran began the day like any other: on the porch, smoking a cigar, sipping a cup of coffee stiffened with whiskey.

I saw this story yesterday and my blood started boiling. Notice that immediately 0bama turned the thing into his “America is racist” narrative? Like the guy had no other significance?

From the article:

OBAMA: “When the war ended, Richard headed home to Texas to a nation bitterly divided by race,” President Obama said. “And his service on the battlefield was not always matched by the respect that he deserved at home. But this veteran held his head high. He carried on and lived his life with honor and dignity.”

The nation was not “bitterly divided by race”. not according to people I know that were alive then.

It was if you were black. Jim Crow was alive and well. If you saw the movie “The Help” that’s how I grew up.

There is almost nothing that can't be turned into a racial issue and an attack on white Americans.

C-SPAN showed a 1944 film on Sunday called "The Negro Soldier." It was set in a black church. There was more patriotism in each individual sitting in that church than in the entire Obama administration combined.

Around 1950 Life Magazine did a story on surviving Civil War vets.

They found an old Confederate vet, he had no teeth, but he had a full head of black hair.

They asked him what his secret was for the hair, and he said, "Don't never wash it!"

Obama infers that half the country was racist. That is BS.

America was well on its way to becoming a color blind country until Obama was elected. He has set race relations back 20 years. He and his wife had an opportunity of a lifetime. They took that opportunity and instead of doing good they have done almost nothing good when it comes to race relations. I grew up in the south and I've never once uttered the "N" word. Because I grew up with black folks and was raised by my parents to not think of them any differently than anyone else. Obama makes me ill. He is trash. That has nothing to do with his skin color and everything to do with his racism.

That veteran should quit with the cigars and whiskey.
Those two habits are very bad for his health.

The divider in chief just can’t help himself. Everything is about race. Throw the pos out.

For a moment I immediately thought WW1 vet. I’m 30 years behind apparently.

I still think of ww2 vets as guys in their 60s.

That was my first thought also, but then I remembered reading that the last surviving WW1 vet was a British woman named Florence Green, who died in 2012 (I confess I had to look up the date.) The last American WW1 vet was Frank Buckles, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 110.
