They will find you at tax time. You can pay the penalty then.

they probably thought there wasn't anything to pay for

There were uninsured people who screamed "poor" and went to the emergency ward and didn't pay the bill. Or they depended on charity, now pretty much unnecessary for anyone. They're also learning about deductibles and copays.

A Republican approach will probably fuse the best of single payer and the free market. A hybrid health care system.

Single payer via expanded Medicaid/Medicare for the poor/working class.

A free market health plan for those who care afford to pay for their own health plan.

We don’t want to go in the direction of Canada and we can’t return to the status quo ante. So a hybrid approach is the right one - and how the mix would work should be left up to the states not dictated by federal bureaucrats in Washington.

A free market health plan for those who can afford to pay for their own

Would that include being able to choose no health plan? Would it include plans that are like Medicare Part A, just for hospital stays and related expenses (for Seniors, that meets the health care requirement). How about plans with deductibles of $5000 or more, with copays of $200 or so?

A lot of people simply don't want "health care". They want policies that cover catastrophic illness, and that's all. I'm one of them Why are people paying to have their blood pressure and temperatures checked by a medical professional? Why should I report for a senior medical checkup where I'd be asked things like how many stairs are there in my house?

I get it with the Medicaid for poor people. It's a terrible deal if they aren't really poor, and they give up all control over their bodies and finances. If they choose that path, fine.

But for some people "get out of my life" is the only health care plan we want. The gov should respect that.

So...if the Obama admin is saying a 30% reduction, I wonder what it’s REALLY gonna be?

“I believe you can only buy it during open enrollment or when you have a qualifying event”

true, but there are so many “qualifying” events, that most people could finagle one if they had to because they got desperately (and expensively) ill. Divorce or or marriage would be relatively easy to arrange for example.

Basically, everyone who wants to can avoid paying the penalty:

https://www.google.com/search?q=avoid+obamacare+penalty&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=Palemoon:en-US&client=palemoon

And even if owe it, the ACA law forbids the IRS taking civil or lien actions against your property, so the only way it’s collectible is via over-withholding, so make sure you always under-withhold:

I don’t disagree, but a lot of people I’ve heard talking about it, are under the impression that if they get sick, they can just sign up for the insurance any time if they get sick, which is not true without the qualifying event. With limited exceptions, insurers are refusing to sell to individuals after the enrollment period for HealthCare.gov and the state marketplaces - another nasty surprise for many people who figured they could get non-exchange insurance any time. The reason for this? The federal law doesn’t prevent companies from selling policies to everyone all year. But insurers consider it too risky now that the law prohibits them from rejecting people in poor health. “If you didn’t have an open enrollment period, you would have people who would potentially enroll when they get sick and dis-enroll when they get better,” said Chris Stenrud, spokesman for insurer Kaiser Permanente. “The only insured people would be sick people, which would make insurance unaffordable for everyone.”

That’s about the extent of my knowlege on this, so I’ll quit talking about it! :-)

Signed up or paid for insurance? Paying for it is what counts.

I can sign up for a whole bunch of stuff but I don't get any of it till I pay

” LOL, they were going to sign up the 45 million people who were uninsured. Remember? That was the whole reason for this bunk”

Yeah.......sure.

If they don’t make the payments, I wonder if the powers that be would debit that individual’s checking account?

I have a cousin that works every day but is poor....a lot of it from her own doing but she really doesn’t make a lot of money. Anyway her Obamacare payment monthly is just a couple of bucks, heavily subsidized, but her deductible is $5k. Lol. She still goes to the free clinic because she can’t afford the $5k deductible. Her new insurance has done her absolutely no good and she is one of those that never had insurance because supposedly she couldn’t afford it. Well she sure can’t afford Obamacare.

So the insurance is banking all that govt money and paying out absolutely nothing. No wonder they are doing so well. Wonder how many millions more are like her?

My fondest wish!

I’ve done all I can. I have a lot of $ in pre-tax savings - my current healthcare, my 401K contribution, and I also changed my withholdings so I get as much back in MY pocket during the years as legally possible.

I have a mortgage and I itemize EVERY DIME I can for charitable donations, etc.

If we could convince everyone across the land to do the same, we could TOTALLY starve the beast! :)

I tend to disagree slightly. They just create fake money to make up the shortfall. Our yearly deficit in a “good” year is now half a trillion.

Starving the beast will bring on the eventual unavoidable collapse a bit sooner though, so it’s not totally ineffective.

You have a point - but it makes ME feel as if I’m doing something to thwart them. Think of ALL the hidden taxes you’ve paid through the years on everything from bubble gum to birth control, LOL!

They suck enough blood out of our hides...usually to fund things we disagree with, or are Unconstitutional in the first place!

The b@stards. She said with a :)
