Video: Family, officers vow to keep memory of Laylah Petersen alive

Milwaukee officers, including Chief Ed Flynn, fought back tears Saturday afternoon as they talked about the senseless shooting of five-year-old Laylah Petersen. By Karen Brooks, Reuters CrimeShootings

The family of a 5-year-old Wisconsin girl killed in a shooting last week donated her heart to another child, police said.

Laylah Petersen was shot in the head Thursday evening as she sat on her grandfather's lap in the living room of their Milwaukee home. About a dozen bullets ripped through the home, police and the station reported. Milwaukee family mourns loss of girl, 5, shot while sitting on grandpa's lap

"She's going to be in our hearts, like her little baby heart is going to be in somebody else's," Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said during a news conference Saturday. "She will always be remembered - not just by her family, but by that family that she has given her little heart to."

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is issuing a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to a conviction.

It's not comforting to the family, but at least another life was saved as a result of this tragedy. God bless Laylah’s family

One or a few of Bammy’s outta control sons did this horrible act. Poor little girl was completely innocent-—as for Michael Brown, —not so much.

‘The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is issuing a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to a conviction.’

This would be the same ATF that screwed up a sting op in MIlwaukee and wound up losing thousands of $ and a MG. Oh ya...this should be good.

It is so sad to read of the death of this poor child or any other child.

Another victim of the government’s condoning of tribal warfare among some suspect classes.

animals don’t usually kill for the fun of it, or just because they feel like it.

These worthless POSs are lower than animals, wild feral beasts.

And I'll bet good money that none of them had a license to carry or had obtained the firearm from a licensed dealer.

So how would all the gun control measures in play today and being formulated have helped this little girl

Sitting on Grandpa’s lap in her own house and is taken by a bullet fired by some low-life gang member. There just are no words! RIP, Laylah.

“Sitting on Grandpa’s lap in her own house and is taken by a bullet fired by some low-life gang member. There just are no words! RIP, Laylah.”

And there isn't one damned gun law that would have prevented this tragedy. But swift prosecution followed by swift application of the death penalty would sure help if only to reduce the population of these murders.

That is what I was thinking. One family's tragedy leads to one family's joy.
