NAACP speaker: Don't wait to recognize, fight oppression
The Indiana Pennsylvania Gazette ^ | November 9, 2014 | Chauncey Ross

Oppression has been a fact of life in America since Europeans first set foot on the continent, and for as long as there have been oppressors and victims, there have been a third group of people — those who stood by and did nothing — according to the guest speaker at the Indiana County NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet.

Dr. challenged the audience even with the title of her talk, “Is There Justice For All?” on Saturday evening at the Indiana Holiday Inn.

Native Americans were the first victims in the western world, she said. Victims of genocide.

Then African-Americans, pressed into slavery, and discriminated against by Jim Crow laws and segregation policies.

Even Japanese-Americans, forced into internment camps during World War II.

Today, African-American men and boys in New York City are prominent victims of oppression, King said. They’re targets of stop-and-frisk racial profiling by the city police, “a policy that has set a standard across the nation for police,” she said.

Today, the faces of oppression have been more personal. Trayvon Martin, in Florida. Michael Brown, in Ferguson, Mo.

“And the list goes on,” King said. “Its no wonder we’re here, questioning, ‘is there justice for all?’ It appears there is a war on our African-American men.”

In more passive ways, King said, ongoing oppression in America is proven statistically. Far more African-Americans are arrested and imprisoned than others. Far more drop out of school and are unemployed. Fewer graduate and go to college.

“I’m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see,
I’m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see.
When I kill all the whities I see, then whitey he won’t bother me,
I’m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see.
Then I’ll get a white woman who’s wearing a navy blue sweater

NAACP had nothing to say about the historic elections of Tim Scott and Mia Love the other day.

Tim Scott is the first black Senator elected from a state of the old Confederacy. Mia Love is the first Republican black woman elected to Congress, and the first black Congresswoman from Utah. Both are historic achievements in the history of blacks, one would think.

But because both of these people are Republicans, and conservative in their politics, the NAACP does not consider them black. Go figure.

Hate to inject history but Germans and Italians were also interned during WWII. If Africans were the only ones ever done wrong on the planet there might be a point. Check history.....every ethnicity has been done wrong at some point. Never makes it right but AAs have no exclusive claim on this. Next question please.

Blacks should be thankful for whitey. They should be thankful for whitey every day they live in the USA instead of Africa.

They are so FULL OF HATE. I say screw them.

And they should be thankful for all their African ancestors that sold them to whitey. The ones that were sold to Arabs weren’t as lucky. The Arabs that took African slaves were 10x more brutal. Many died being marched across the desert.

Trayvon got justice on the spot, and in a delayed sort of way — so did Michael Brown

They castrated the males before they marched.

For whatever reason, African-American has become an accepted term to refer to a particular group of people.

When I was younger, such people were called Negroes. For unknown reasons, the term Negro fell into disuse and was replaced by the term black.

Years before my time, the term colored people was accepted as a descriptive term. Then at some point it actually became an insult or a slur.

What I don’t know is who actually decides these things. Or if critical masses of people just start using words and they become accepted.

It happens with other groups too. Homosexuals are now gay. Liberals and leftists are now progressives. Oriental people are now Asian. But Asians in Great Britain are people from India or Pakistan, not the Orient or Far East.

If you use the wrong term, the politically correct crowd will call you a bigot for that, and disregard the content of what you have to say.
