YEARS ago I read an article about a shrewd political aide or some such. At that time, the politicians in Los Angeles wanted a raise and the people kept voting it down. The Wise Guy then wrote an initiative stating something like “Under no circumstances will the council members of Los Angeles be paid more than circuit judges.”
People said “Damn Straight” and voted for the initiative. Turns out, the judges were paid three times what the councilmen were, so the law-abiding councilmen obediently upped their pay to match the judges.
Voters! Purposely dumbed down...
