... Those on either side of the aisle express sharply divergent views on top issues, making it difficult for lawmakers to discern a clear mandate for governing. ... -Fifty-four percent of those who voted for Democrats said the country is headed in the right direction, while 88 percent of Republican voters think it's on the wrong track... -Republican voters are disproportionately likely to live in the South (38 percent, compared with 27 percent of Democratic voters) and less likely to live in cities (26 percent of Republican voters compared with 39 percent of Democratic ones).

Read the article. Clearly shows the divergence.
[daily life] == [reality]
Dems is stupit.
Never mind they are really partisan Democrats in a sour grape mood writing articles and hiding behind the journalist label
The Electorate was NOT divided.
AP, a terrorist organization working against Freedom,
Truth and Justice, makes up “facts” and calls them “news”.
Shows the success democrats have had over the last 50 years dividing Americans into meaningless special interest groups they can manipulate to gain power for themselves.
The mandate is clear: The Republicans won.
I got your division!
The reality of diversity in the American people.
The Democrats got so much praise, they got away with stupid. However, they lost some votes and seats when they couldn’t do their homework.
The Democrats live in Democrat-run cities and states that are going broke due to mismanagement and corruption. They are populated byTakers dependent on government Free Stuff.
Republicans live in places populated by Makers who are tired of having their income taken to provide services to the Takers, while being castigated by this government for being successful. This won’t go on forever.
producers vs parasites & white guilt
Actually, in many ways it doesn't show as great of a divergence as the AP agitators would have people believe.
For many of the questions, majorities of both Republicans and Democrats actually agree on certain issues and/or have similar demographics. In fact, the Democrat leadership is out of step with the polled Democrat voters' sentiments or behaviors in some of those areas.
It is the AP's leftward-leaning writers who are working to cloud the point by highlighting the differences and not pointing out the divergence between Democrat policy and Democrat voter sentiments, for example on the economy or on the importance of fighting terrorism. Furthermore, I'll bet that the AP activists were extremely butt-hurt to discover that a strong majority of the Democrats that they polled were white.
The only daly life issue they polled there was arguably the economy, everything else was long term to never term.
The Democrats at the AP just do not want to hear, much less deal with, the word "mandate".
This election is a mandate, baby.
That's always been the real division.
