A FEW GOOD WORDS
The accuracy of lie detector tests has never been completely decided upon. Although it is inadmissible as evidence in court, even the proponents of lie detector testing agree that it is not always accurate. Among the first lie detectors, considered by some to be the most accurate, was the donkey's tail! That's right, in ancient India, a suspect would be escorted to a darkened room.
Only three would be present: the accused, the interrogator, and a donkey. The person being questioned was told that the donkey would bray if his responses were not truthful, and he was then asked to hold the donkey's tail.
Forerunners of the modern-day lie detector include a portable unit, developed in 1930. As early as 1899, an Italian physiologist invented what is called the hydrosphygmograph, which simply recorded variations in pulse. Later came the galvanometer and the pneumanograph to measure electric conductivity of the skin and respiration. But none of these early devices was as tried and true and accurate as the donkey's tail!
Remember, the suspect is in a darkened room with a donkey. He was told to hold the tail of the donkey, and if a lie was told, the donkey would bray. But the suspect was not told that the donkey's tail was covered with black soot! So those who feared the donkey's telltale bray, in the darkness of the room dared not to touch the donkey's tail. They would emerge with clean hands
thus proven guilty!
Honesty is, always has been, and always will be, the best policy! It is priceless. Honesty paves the way for successful living. Honesty is a virtue. Ask yourself, "Have I been truthful in all things today. . .to my relationships. . .to myself? Have I been straightforward? Did I earn respect?"
Honesty takes plenty of courage, but the rewards are tremendous. Folks will say of you, "There is a person we can trust, one on whom we can depend to act fairly, justly, considerately. This individual is worthy of promotion and recognition." And all this without using the donkey's tail!

Tear Down The Wall
The years following World War II were labeled the Cold War as nations exchanged threats and jockeyed for power. The Berlin Wall, built in August 1961, stood for almost 3 decades as one of the most powerful symbols of the smoldering animosity. Then, on November 9, 1989, it was announced that citizens could cross freely from East to West Berlin. The entire wall was demolished the following year.
The familiar Old Testament story of Joseph follows a favorite son whose brothers hated him (Gen. 3750). Yet Joseph refused to build a wall of hatred between himself and his brothers who sold him into slavery. When a famine brought them face to face after many years, Joseph treated his brothers with kindness, saying, You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good . . . . And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them (50:20-21), helping to restore the relationship between them.
Twenty-five years ago today, an oppressive man-made barrier was opened, offering freedom and reuniting families and friends.
If weve built walls of anger and separation between ourselves and others, the Lord is willing and able to help us begin tearing them down today.
Heavenly Father, examine my heart; reveal to
me where I have erected walls in relationships.
Show me the way to start tearing them down
that there might be reconciliation.
Anger builds walls; love breaks them down.
Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, forgotten by people he helped, falsely accused, and unjustly imprisoned. But he overcame all these setbacks to become the second most powerful man in Egypt. Earlier in Genesis 45:5-8, and again here in Genesis 50:20, Joseph acknowledged Gods sovereignty and purpose in his lifethat God overrules human sin for His glory and the ultimate good of mankind. Paul succinctly summed up the same truth in Romans 8:28: We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

A few years back, a suspect was interrogated by police. They put a spaghetti colander on his head with wires leading to a copier. They had a piece of paper with a message ready to go in the machine.
After asking the suspect a question and getting an answer, the detective pushed the button, and a paper with "HE'S LYING" came out of the copier.
The suspect confessed.
True story.

Getting some good rest? Garden all put to bed?
My sister has gone home, so things are settling into the norm. My Mom is already rearranging furniture. Why, I know not.

Still under the weather - an unproductive day, but I at least got some rest.
I'm way behind the power curve on the garden - but we have yet to experience a hard freeze this season.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
