If we could stream Fox and football it would be goodbye DirecTV.

You might check ROKU for both. I think FoxNews now has streaming of their programs on the Roku box. Same with NFL network. They are considered 'prime' services, so they charge a monthly fee.

When they started there was not much competition. What’s the airport excuse for staying with them. If they have to pay seems like there would be bidding.

The last time I saw CNN was in a hotel elevator last April, so I am curious, are they still going on about Malaysian Flight 370, or, if not, when did they stop?

I pay uverse @ 135.00 a month for 200 channel/18 mb internet( actually get over 20 mb)/phone. I need the landline becsuse my sister in law is older and cell phone service at home is not the best. We have 7 devices on home network so I Pay $$ for the internet tier. We regularly watch history, discovery, food network, fox news, nfl for thursnight games, fox sports fir MLB games in season, espn for MNF and Wisconsin football. I have 40 movies accumulated from HBO and Showtime preview weekends. My wife watches programming on a few others . This and the local/PBS programming rounds it out.

I will probably give it a try this winter. I also worry about the way that data caps are set up, now. It looks like they are setting up the caps specifically to catch cord cutters. But you are so right. The interface on cable is a joke. I have no idea what 75% of these channels are. It takes forever to find anything, and 9 times out of 10 I just pick up a book, instead.

I will be getting rid of the land line phone this month

I had the old MagicJoke for a several years. It had to have the computer/laptop on to operate. But, every other upgrade caused it to not work until the next upgrade.

A month ago I purchases the Ooma home box. It was on sale for $90. The only recurring charges are the FED/e911 fees which are just under $4 per month for my area. The Ooma box does have premium features for $10 per month. So far, no complaints.

I also have a prepaid cellphone which costs about $7/month.

Those are sure less expensive than the landline I dropped 8 years ago. It was up to $25 per month plus a minimum of about $5 in various charges and taxes for any long distance call.

Jeannine, you typed pretty much exactly what I’m looking forward to doing within the next few weeks.

“Cable is circling the drain...”

Well, not completely. You’ll still need cable to access the internet.

It started long before that. I don’t know when, but years, maybe decades earlier.

I have wireless internet. A little antenna on my roof bounces the signal off a repeater on a mountain outside of town.

I pay several hundred dollars per month for cable TV at two locations. I could survive with no problems with Fox News and HGTV (for the wife) and over-the-air TV. I would save most of the cost. I will soon do it.

Think what you want. I did this for a living. I know what I am talking about. Most mass transit places are government or quasi government entities.

They make deals pretty much the same way private universities and other commercial properties.

Not much of a conspiracy to be had.

Just guessing, but those decisions were made way back when CNN was really an unbiased and content-filled news outlet. Old habits die hard I suppose.

I'd love to see Candy Crowley starve to death, but 2050 is a long time without eating.

I'm glad to see leftist TV get defunded, They've enjoyed a monopoly too long.

Local TV is coming on strong, Here channels like 'ME-TV' [old sitcoms] 'Grit' {westerns/action/adventure] and 'Get TV' ['old movies] give some alternative choices.

FYI, the "new" MagicJoke is no joke. The Jack is less than half price of Uuma, and $35/yr vs $48. No computer needed after signup, 2+ years with no upgrades or downtime for me, great voice quality, voice mail recordings by email if your system is down. And it is a USB stick, take it with! Free international calling TO the US and Canada.

My T-Mobile prepaid cell is $0/month, 10 cents/min, great for an emergency only phone.

So, cut the cable, get ROKU and Netflix, hook-up an antenna for live local broadcast, ditch landline for MagicJack and get prepaid cell. Sign-off Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Whatnot. Don't worry, be happy.

I get those and also Cozi (old TV shows), This TV (old Movies) Antenna TV (old TV show), Bounce (old TV shows and movies), and Movies (old movies). Also Ion TV which has repeats of TV shows and all of the broadcast networks.

With all of these choices, I'm thinking of getting rid of cable.

NFL rewind is forty dollars for the year for every regular season game, all playoff games are broadcast on free TV, after the Sunday night game every game is available to stream and you can watch the whole game or the 30 minute replay and other features. And It’s less money if you to watch every game of one team

A useful resource for you.

If you have Fry’s, they sell good antenna hardware.
