I lived in Raleigh for a couple of years. I spent many an hour on two lane roads backed up as far as the eye could see. I couldn't wait to get back to Phoenix were adding lanes is just what we do regularly.
Oh most definitely. You are not the arbiter of the law or speed limit. If you are not actively passing, get out of the left lane.
I meant to add this about the tailgaters; The proper way to deal with tailgating, assuming you can’t move to the right, is to increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you.
From experience I’ve found that simple distance change, which you have complete control over, will do two very important things for you:
1. You are safer, because you are less likely to have to slow down suddenly, which, in turn, means you are less likely to be rear ended by the tailgater.
2. With the extra room, you can ignore the guy behind you completely, which gives a lot of piece of mind.
OR
From your posts, I’d say that you aren’t a very polite driver. You’d be surprised how much stress can melt away by just being a polite driver yourself.
I know, I drive 500 to 1,000 miles a week, much in heavy traffic.
I grew up in Maryland. It didn’t used to be this way. But over the years all kinds of people came to live and work in MD due to it’s proximity to the Federal gov’t.
And the Entitlement Class has grown by leaps and bounds.
I think that post was about moving left to take a left exit.
Left exits can be incredibly dangerous because you force drivers that would otherwise stick to the right lane into the faster lanes, in a situation (exiting) where they are going to be slowing down even further.
I’ve talked to cops and state troopers over the years and they all agree: speed doesn’t necessarily kill; speed differential does.
It has been announced that starting next Fall, three of UNC’s universities will change their admission standards by lowering the SAT scores requirements and allowing GPA to have more weight in admission decisions. All three schools are predominately black and have a combined rate of 41% graduation after 6 years. That was also sold as leveling the playing field, I leave you to your own conclusions. BTW, one of the three is the alma mater of Krystal Mangum, who after the Duke nightmare, graduated with a degree in psychology and criminal justice.
Oops, wrong thread! Sorry!
Oops, wrong thread! Sorry!
Truly an incomprehensible statement. Do you really trust (and value) yourself so little?
Jihad? They’re doing it in Israel.
In Texas the “speed limit” is the same in all lanes. I’ll bet it is the same in Georgia.
In Colorado you are required, by law to move right when possible unless you are passing.
Speed has no bearing.
If the limit is 75, and you are going 85 in the left lane, you are required to move right (unless you are passing someone yourself) and let the guy wanting to do 90 behind you to pass.
Awesome.
If I ever get a ticket from one of those cameras, it will be the last one it ever generates.
(I have driven across Colorado many many times, I thought sure I saw speed limit signs. )
I’m politer than most but I’m not stupid. If I have to stay in the left lane for a left exit I do it. Sorry about that.
I agree with your advice about tail gating.
I don’t have a problem with your scenario on needing to exit to the left. But, you need to do your best to avoid impeding the flow of traffic. Keep up. If you see people behind you starting to bounce lanes, you may very well be going slower than that flow of traffic will allow.
People doing that cause more chaos behind them that they are never aware of. They think they are so safe and doing the right thing, but behind them people are bouncing lanes trying to get through. Those are very dangerous people, but I would rather let them go through and avoid an incident with them. That is safer in the long run.
I’m normally 10 over the limit which is the standard flow of traffic in NJ
There are speed limits. But you are not the person to enforce them. Let the idiot going 90 on through and hope that you do get to see them pulled over. Make your day.
That is better than having the person doing 90 bouncing lanes and causing even more chaos.
In CO it is also law that if someone is tailgating you, you are required to get out of their way. Tailgaiting is illegal, and you will be cited for it when caught. But, if you are being tailgated and do not make an effort to mitigate the situation, you can be cited.
