The GOP's Senate takeover means the chamber's leadership positions will be filled with Republicans next year. That's bad news for the environment: The Senates worst climate change denier, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, will likely chair the Environment and Public Works Committee. But it's also bad news for science: Texas Senator Ted Cruz, another climate denier, may be next-in-line to become chair of the Subcommittee on Science and Space, which oversees agencies like the National Science Foundation, NASA, and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
In a February interview with CNN, Cruz said he doesnt think the Earth is warming.
You know, you always have to be worried about something that is considered a so-called scientific theory that fits every scenario. Climate change, as they have defined it, can never be disproved, because whether it gets hotter or whether it gets colder, whatever happens, they'll say, well, it's changing, so it proves our theory.
He then parroted a myth beloved by deniers.
The last 15 years, there has been no recorded warming. Contrary to all the theories that they are expounding, there should have been warming over the last 15 years. It hasnt happened, said Cruz. You know, back in the 70sI remember the 70s, we were told there was global cooling. And everyone was told global cooling was a really big problem. And then that faded.
Cruz does believe in aliens, though.
"I am perfectly happy to compromise and work with anybody," he once said. "Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians. Ill work with Martians. Ifand the if is criticalthey're willing to cut spending and reduce the debt."
Close the EPA.
Sounds reasonable.
Liberals are upset their pet issues are going to be buried.
Climate change in any event is way down the list of people’s concerns and why they voted this week.
If they wanted climate change addressed, they would have voted for the Democrats.
Cut the NSF’s CAGW budget by 50%.
They are crazy aren’t they? maybe we should spend our time worrying about real problems for once.
Climate denier???????????? LOL, the smugness is only exceeded by their stupidity.
They’re making it sound as if this is a bad thing.
The only thing overheating is their wild imagination.
Sounds reasonable.
Good, they’re already bringing out the big guns (”denier”). Like “the war on women”, once they have escalated the rhetoric to an extreme, they can’t walk it back and then overuse the phrase to the point that it becomes meaningless.
Which is Cruz more likely to find in Washington, Martians or rational Democrats?
Not a goofy statement after all.
I love it when petulant little bitches get national ink :)
Two years of demonizing and character assassination will be underway from now until 2016 to shut him down early in the primaries...
How to identify scientists: If a person smiles approvingly when you say, “the science is settled”, it’s not a real scientist. Cruz is much closer than any anti-CO2 liberal - he considers the facts with an open mind.
What Cruz says is true. I was there; I remember thinking, OMG, any day now a glacier is going to swoop down and kill us all!
I notice Ms. Leber doesn't even try to disprove (with evidence) what she terms "a myth."
Hmmmpf..how many Nobel prizes has HE got? /s
