The ‘War on Women’ loses a general after Sandra Fluke rejected by California voters

The hollow and silly “War on Women” narrative may never truly disappear. Democrats will need to marshal grievance among young and single women like never before if Hillary Clinton becomes the party’s standard-bearer in 2016. But the 2014 elections have dealt this vacuous yarn a blow from which it may never recover.

Ed Morrissey chronicled the collapse of the fabled “War” in a must-read column for The Fiscal Times:

This is not a case of just poor turnout but of actual shift in support — or at the very least an erosion of loyalty in a very short period of time. Other polls by the Associated Press and Pew Research also show dramatic erosion for Democrats among single women since 2012, even while seeing somewhat larger gaps.

What happened? For one thing, Republican candidates had better message discipline in 2014, depriving Democrats of opportunities for their demagoguery.

The incessant harping on contraception may have finally repelled women who have other concerns, such as the economy and national security, just like the millennials. But perhaps the desperation of Democrats to play this card with the same effectiveness as two years ago finally opened their eyes to the paternalistic attitude that Democrats took in positioning themselves as protectors, which implies that women can’t act on their own behalf.

He observed that Ground Zero in the counteroffensive in the “War on Women” came this year in Colorado where Senator-elect Cory Gardner defeated incumbent Mark Udall after the Democrat spent virtually the entirety of his campaign insisting that Gardner was an extremist on women’s issues without substantial evidence to back this charge up.

This intellectual cul-de-sac culminated in NARAL ill-advisedly fielding an ad in which the group envisioned a dystopian future where Gardner had somehow outlawed all forms of contraception including condoms. The voters deserved more credit, and they earned it on Tuesday night when they voted out their one-note Democratic senator.

What’s more, Udall did not even win women by overwhelming margins. A traditionally Democratic-leaning Demographic, the incumbent only secured the votes of 52 percent of women voters. Gardner won 47 percent of Centennial State women.

But the greatest defeat in the “War on Women” on Tuesday night came in California. There, the prototypical victim of Republicans’ supposed assaults on women’s health, the very face of Republican antipathy toward reproductive rights, Sandra Fluke, lost her bid for office.

Fluke lost to fellow Democrat Ben Allen, a Santa Monica-Malibu school board member, by over 21 points. As The Huffington Post’s Paul Blumenthal reported last month, real estate mogul Bill Bloomfield poured $1.3 million into independent expenditures backing Allen’s campaign, an enormous amount for a state Senate race. Both Fluke and Allen raised over $1 million for their respective campaigns. [Emphasis added]

The “War on Women” is not going away in 2016, but Democrats will be far more cautious when they invoke its themes. 2014 showed that it simply is no longer that effective a political tactic.

Most women are just not as stupid and shallow as the likes of Sandra Fluke and Lena Dunham believe they are.

Truly, Sandy’s 15 minutes were 14 minutes more than she deserved. Sandy’s expiration date was a long time ago.

Tell me about it, practically all the women I know personally take this whole “war on women” crap as an insult, as they SHOULD because what are liberals telling them? That they’re nothing more than breeding machines as if the only thing women should care about is having sex and having abortions.

Without Rush’s spotlight, Sandy’s 1 minute of fame would never have happened.

I read somewhere she p*ssed away 600 grand of her husband’s trust fund money but the opponent spent over a mil on a lousy state legislature seat. Those Cali deals must REALLY be lucrative.

At the moment people aren’t interested in activism, they’re worried about REAL things.

I guess we can now say that Sandra Fluke is a dead fish in the political waters, and is smelling like one.

She is a typical leftist Democrat FemiNazi parasite because she went to a very expensive law school and yet wanted the taxpayer to cover her $9.00 a month purchase of birth-control pills. Then she announced that she is marrying the very well-heeled son of a liberal millionaire.

This woman (if you can call her that), is not only a political parasite, but a liar and a plain cheapskate. If she really wants effective and cheap birth-control items, I’ll contribute a dozen extra-large CORKS, with instructions on how to use them properly.

A “FLUKE” - a bottom-dwelling, scum-sucking fish.

Now you know the full story!

Most women are just not as stupid and shallow as the likes of Sandra Fluke and Lena Dunham believe they are.

As a woman, I've found typically it's the liberal woman who is shallow & dumb. The things they actually say & believe....

Rumor has it her loss was due to a tragic misunderstanding.

Her campaign manager told her she'd get best results if she went door-to-door, and she did.

She didn't win, but she made 1600 democrats very happy...

How could Americans be so stupid to vote for rethugs and not for their own (narrow) self-interests?

That's the refrain over at DUmmyLand. These idiots have no clue as to what the term "greater good" actually means, and act like self-absorbed wild animals.

I'm glad for the victory last night and only hope the republicans do something constructive (ie; jobs, border enforcement, kill ACA, etc..) with it instead of trying to befriend liberals.

I guess she’ll have to go back to being an over educated “slut”. If she hadn’t made it into the news, she would have ended up with 6 figure student loan debt, a worthless masters degree in something pointless, and working part time jobs at a shoe store/olive garden/Starbucks..... (the typical scenario for the millennials)

I any women (liberal or otherwise) are realizing that while they may enjoy the perks of victimhood (affirmative action in schools, jobs), it has created an environment where they themselves have no future (in the sense of families). If 60% of college classes are women, then naturally some won’t be marrying college-educated men; if college education helps earn a better income, then many of those women will see themselves in primary “bread-winner” roles (instead of parents).

After 9/11 there was a spate of stories here in northern NJ of some women leaving the workforce to raise their children; I guess it straightened out priorities for them. The images of mothers jumping to their deaths from 100 floors up might do that...
