WASHINGTON (AP) - One day after sweeping Republican election gains, President Barack Obama and incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to try and turn divided government into a force for good rather than gridlock on Wednesday, yet warned of veto showdowns as well.
"There is no doubt that Republicans had a good night," the president said at the White House, referring to big gains that left the GOP in control of the Senate, with an expanded House majority and in possession of a handful of governorships formerly in Democratic hands.
To voters who handed the GOP control of Congress, he said, "I hear you. ... It's time for us to take care of business." He cited construction of roads, bridges and other facilities as one area ripe for cooperation. He said expanded trade was another.
At the same time, he noted, "Congress will pass some bills I cannot sign. I'm pretty sure I will take some actions that some in Congress will not like."

Lying POS. Pound sand you fascist ass.
We don’t need to expand international trade. We need to reduce international trade and put our own people back to work.
And exactly what job is that...Buckwheat?
He emphasized the number of people — “two thirds” — who didn’t vote on Tuesday. Despite saying repeatedly that his policies were on the ballot on Tuesday, Obama insisted Wednesday that the message of the election wasn’t a rejection of those policies but rather a sign that the American public wanted politicians to work together to get things done. Asked whether he had made a mistake by not reaching out to Republicans more in the past few years, Obama let out an audible sigh before answering. He said it was too soon to talk about any personnel changes.
Wow I thought he mentioned veto’s and E.O. at the presser........silly me I must have been watching a different one then the AP was
Not just measuring, he is taunting. One thing about taunting, doing it from a position of strengh when Weed, er Reid, was in charge is one thing. Doing it now will show his ass.
Yup. He’s setting the stage.
First presser question went by design to co-author Julie Pace.
Obama took no responsibility for his failures. He threatened more of the same on immigration if Republicans don’t go along with his immigration bill.
The Big “O” has said many things over the last six years and the vast majority of them have been lies. He’ll say anything but does what he damned well pleases!
He couldn’t “get the job done” with democrats. Why should we think he can do it now.
One nice thing about the republicans controlling the senate is that they will have more control over what the agenda is going to be.
He did all but give them the finger!
Impeach the creep.
