Even her name is media friendly. Mia Love instantly became the darling of the Republican Party on Wednesday, after being elected as its first black female member of Congress -- and a Mormon to boot.
And she has also rapidly drawn comparisons with Barack Obama, not least since she wowed her party's 2012 national convention with a tale of rags-to-political riches, much like the young Senator Obama did in 2004.
"Many of the naysayers out there said that Utah would never elect, a black Republican LDS woman to Congress," she said at her victory rally, referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormons.
"Not only did we do it, we were the first to do it," said the 38-year-old, who was previously mayor of Saratoga Springs, a city 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Born Ludmya Bourdeau in Brooklyn to Haitian-American parents, Love catapulted herself into Washington's political spotlight by winning the Mormon-dominated western US state's Fourth Congressional District.
Love's parents came from Haiti in the mid-1970s, and she recalls in interviews how her father at times took second jobs cleaning toilets to pay for school for their three children.
She graduated from the University of Hartford, Connecticut with a degree in fine arts. A Catholic by upbringing, she found the Mormon faith before finding her white Mormon husband Jason Love.
Love is a minority in both her state and church: barely 1 percent of Utahans are black or African American, while only an estimated 3 percent of Mormons are. Mormons make up an estimated 60 percent of Utah's population.
She is fond of recalling what her father told her during her college orientation: "Mia, your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back,"

Think I once knew a distant cousin, Thiza.
Just like the last time she unperformed polls that showed her winning big.The difference is that this time she barely won. I am thinking this may be a Bradly effect and she could be vulnerable in the future.
RE: Even her name is media friendly.
It sounds like a porn star, but what the hey.

Her maiden name is Ludmya Bourdeau.
IMHO, Mia Love should have won in 2012 had the Libertarian, Jim L. Vein not taken nearly 3% of the votes from Republicans.
In 2014, many of the Republican loses (e.g. Virginia ) and runoffs (e.g. Louisiana ) came as a result of Libertarians siphoning votes away from Republicans.
Thankfully, Mia Love won over 50% of the vote this year.
Obama isn't worthy to carry her bags.
Mia Love, the Obama of the Republican Party?
No. We may love her and respect her, but unlike Democrats, Republicans and Conservatives already have a God.
“Mia, your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back,”
No wonder they Hate Her, she is against everything the Demonrat Party stands for, Slavery, Bondage, Power, Control...
You’ve got to admire her and her family. Proud to have her a Republican.
While we are mentioning women. How about Nikki Haley, Joni Ernst, Susana Martinez. Finally got some repub politicians with b___s!
What, she doesn't have a birth certificate? Her mom was a communist? What?
And the “darling”? Notice that sexism? And how dismissive. Was Obama the “darling” of the lefty crowd in 2008?
Congratulations to Mia Love. God bless!
I wouldn’t equate anyone to Obola unless I wanted to push off on them one of the biggest insults possible.
Mia has earned her way along. She is bright, well grounded, and doesn’t hate the United States with a passion.
Honestly, for a split second last night I contemplated explaining how we would exploit her if we were the Democrat party. Then I thought better. We as a group of people are better than that.
When we run people they have a past. Their records aren’t sealed. They have achieved things on their own. They have a record of achievement. They have documents. The press is free to rummage through them.
Mia Love is the real deal. If she does seek higher office at some point, I will take a look at her again to make sure, but one thing I am sure without having done it yet, she is no Barack Obama, a man with more secrets at this stage of the game than a cold war super-spy.
She won’t be a Manchurian Candidate, a sleeper mole here on behalf of Islam, or on behalf of anything other than on behalf of good citizens all over America.
She could step in right now and do many times better than Obama. When she does if she every does, she’ll have earned the position.
There’s another thing Obama never did.
Once she is the incumbent, people will be more inclined to vote for her. The first election is usually the toughest, unless she disappoints. Bob
“...but I think Mormonism cost Romney a lot of votes. Hate me if you must.”
I believe that you may be correct. I’m aware of at least three evangelicals who were GOP-leaning in their voting but would not vote for Romney.
It wasn’t because of RomneyCare. It wasn’t because of his perceived squishiness (sp?) on other issues.
They all said that it was his religion that bothered them most.
I figured “Take these three people and extrapolate those numbers across the US” and that could easily explain one of the main reasons for Romney’s loss
Unlike librals’ Obama-love, conservatives don’t actually give a rat’s about her skin color. The left just can’t comprehend that.
She sure is impressive.
She sure is impressive.
Definitely not the obama of the GOP. She’s had real jobs, and executive experience. She has a brain. She can speak extemporaneously.
