CHARLESTON, W.Va. Former Maryland state lawmaker Alex Mooney had a thin lead over Democrat Nick Casey in the race for West Virginias 2nd Congressional District. Democrat Nick Casey
With 12 of 17 counties reporting (about 33 percent of precincts overall), Mooney had received 47 percent of the votes to Caseys 44 percent.
Each candidate was on pace to carry his home territory: Mooney with 54.9 percent in Berkeley County and Casey holding 55.4 percent in Kanawha County.
The district was thrown open when seven-term Republican congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito launched a successful U.S. Senate campaign.
Alex was our state party chair for a while after he was defeated in his second reelection effort for state senate. Campaigned for him last Friday. Two of us played hooky from Maryland and did some mailings and phones.
Awesome - Alex was wasted talent in MD. Wish him well in the House !
Mooney winning would be great ... this is the seat vacated by RINO Shelley Moore Capito, who will likely replace the execrable Jay Rockefeller. We might even dispose of Nick Rahall, leaving the utterly repugnant lying backstabber Joe Manchin as our only demonicrat in Washington.
Mooney up 47% to 44% with 91% in - I think he wins !
You have to have enough votes to overcome the Democrat 3% margin-of-cheating.
Davy Jones has 5% of the vote ... I’m a bit surprised he gets that much support. I don’t think it’s protest votes.
Fox just called it for Mooney ... Looks like a Republican sweep for us toothless hillbillies.
Hope it does some good.
:) awesome !!! Mooney just got a seat in Congress !!! Do you know how many Democrats in Md House wouldlove to be in Congress !!! HaHaHa - they chased him out of MD and now he’s in the Congress !!!!
This whole election is a great, big, Red, White and Blue FXXX YOU!!! to the demonicrat party.
Now ... will the Republican Party do anything useful with their victory?
