The Boston Elections Department has reported that 26,765 people have voted as of 9 a.m., representing 6.98 percent of the registered voters in Boston. This gives us a good indication of how many people will have voted by the end of the day, both in Boston and statewide. There is a fairly stable relationship between the turnout updates and final turnout, both at the city and state levels.
This chart shows the projected figures for turnout through the rest of the day in Boston. We will update the chart when the noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. updates arrive from the Boston Elections Department. The estimate is based on the change in total votes between the 9 a.m. update and the final vote tallies. Based on these relationships, we project a total turnout between 148,000 and 183,000 votes in Boston and between 2.09 and 2.68 million votes statewide.
So how does current turnout compare to turnout in other recent elections? The chart below compares current Boston votes with Boston votes from past election updates. We will update the chart throughout the day.

The polls are packed in the suburbs!
There was a line waiting to vote at our rural East Texas voting station this morning and the folks running it said there had been a line since they opened. Usually no line at other elections.
This does not look good for WendyHo or her Halfrican buddy.
The polls were brisk at 8 AM in Western MA (Longmeadow). Out here at least, there were not many “races” aside from Gov. Most of the local guys were unopposed. Of course, the ballot questions were bringing out a ton of folks.
Since Baker seemed to be pulling ahead I think most of the hard core dems are going to take a walk on Martha.
Voter turnout down in Boston is bad for the casinos, and for Martha.
I voted on the South Shore (MA) today. It was packed. Took about an hour at 9 am. Without exaggerating I think I was the youngest person in the building and I’m 44. Man those seniors like to vote.
Add that to the polls always skewing too much to the dems because of Boston, this could be a good sign.

not for nothing, as we say up in new England, but this line was heard over and over in 2012, and look what happened.
lets hope it means something different this time.
I also voted on the South Shore and the place was packed with young guys not the usual seniors. Now to me a young guy is anyone younger than 60.
In Longmeadow the rich republicans vote early. I went in when all of their wives had finished dropping off Buffy and Josh at the middle school. The place was full of Lexi (thats the plural of Lexus, right?)
So, I guess the R lead was quickly diminishing, because all of the ladies were “doing it for the chilren (sic)” before they headed to Starbucks and the gym in their fine yoga pants.
In Cohasset ,which is full of Suburbans, those same Mommies and Daddies generally vote Republican
Here in MA I was expecting the usual long line at 7:30 this morning and was surprised to see that there was zero line.

My wife and I just voted. (same place you voted) A good mix of people and plenty of them.
In front of me, an attractive young lady was told to remove her Charlie Baker t-shirt.

The poor people of Boston proper (another pun) are probably pooped from Mayor Mumbles Menino’s state funeral.
It was a puke-fest, especially on TV.

Same here in the normally left-leaning Cuyahoga County (Cleveland, Ohio area). This is indicative that the Lumpenproletariat just weren't all that interested in voting, without Obama to vote for.
