What Should A Smart Conservative Do? Thinking about sitting out this election? Think again.
American Thinker ^ | 11/4/2014 | Kevin Tharp

This 2014 election may be one of the most important elections in recent memory. Of course every election cycle someone claims that the next election is the most important one and they make arguments to support their claim. But every election can have serious consequences and should be treated as important and significant. This one is no exception. So what should serious-minded conservatives do?

Some conservatives are still thinking about the primary season. Their ideal candidate did not win. Maybe even the best candidate ideal or not did not win either. As a result, a few are considering not voting in the general at all. A few others are arguing for a protest vote. But are these smart choices?

If you’re thinking about sitting out this election, think again. You are probably thinking that there is no conservative choice so you’re not going to vote. In the heat of battle we tend to think in extremes. And the primary fight may have left you thinking this way. But this is a false dichotomy. You enter an election with the choices you have, not the choices you would like to have. You have a choice between making the country a little bit worse off or a little bit better. The marginal choice should be obvious. You’ve heard the famous saying “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. If you choose not to vote you have chosen to do nothing. Life is not static. It will move whether you help it or not. Choose to move it the right direction.

If you’re thinking about making a “protest” vote you should reconsider that as well. It really isn’t a smart choice. No one will really know what you are saying.

Oh, I won’t sit out the election, but I will not be voting for any GOP-E Turds.

I don’t vote for those who have publically stated and worked for my demise as a Tea-Partier.

Hey JackAss,

It's not about recognition, it's the principle of the thing!

Some really ignorant Republican voters still don't get it. It does not matter whether a RINO or not. We have to vote and get a Republican victory in the Senate. We have to control the floor in the Senate or the Republic is lost. GET IT!!!! Don't give a shit how some of you vote in the House since will still keep it so exercise your stupidity there.

“You have a choice between making the country a little bit worse off or a little bit better.”

The only power that people like us Freepers have is our one vote on election day. Don’t waste it.

This Congress may well be given the chance to approve or reject an Osamabama nominee to the Supreme Court; think about that before you start talking about your precious “principles”...

I voted. Number 190 in my very small conservative precinct. They said it looks like everybody is coming out today.

“or the Republic is lost”

Aside from voting today...

Is it your assumption that it is currently not lost?

Why?

Non-voting conservatives are Harry Reid’s wet dream.

They are his only hope of remaining in power.

I just finished voting. In my district every Republican was also listed on the Conservative line where all my votes went. Some of these RINOs might take note of the fact that they would have lost if it weren’t for the Conservative vote. Since the main job of each of these jokers appears to be to get reelected they may pay some attention the right agenda. Or maybe this is just wishful thinking (sigh).

All I know is that those tiny voices whining that its over from the bottom of the foxhole need to STFU and stop actively helping the left’s propaganda effort.

No, that is not the choice we are being given.

The choice we are being given is between making the country a little bit worse (GOP) and a whole lot worse (Dems).

If that was the sole dynamic, then I'd have no qualms about going all GOP all the time. But that's not the sole dynamic at all.

The other part of this, the hardest part for me, is that the GOP leadership is already trumpeting these elections as the death of the Tea Party movement and a mandate away from conservatism. They are already saying this election proves that the GOP voters want "moderate" Republicans, cementing the power of the current liberal GOP leadership.

So my vote for a little worse off rather than a lot worse off is also a vote in favor of those who willingly use their donated resources to crush truly conservative candidates and who consistenly compromise on conservative ideals.

It's not just holding my nose to vote for someone who isn't quite as conservative as I'd like, it is voting for a party that is stomping all over my beliefs and principles for its own good and its own power just because the other party is even worse.

If you can’t come up with a persuasive argument, call the person names. It has worked for Democrats for a couple generations.

But I am lucky, I have an exception. Ted Cruz is my Senator and I proudly voted for him. And he will be my choice for president in 2016.
