Apparently with the new Obama administration version of NASA, failure IS an option.
One of the biggest space disasters ever, the Challenger disaster, was caused by FREEZING COLD WEATHER and idiotic management that ignored risks related to cold weather as warned by engineers.
I have a pretty hard time believing that about a degree of warming is going to cause all these woes. That and the fact that NASA has had a nearly 9 year hurricane free window in Florida to not worry about launches.
From EcoWatch:
NASA programs are being put in jeopardy by the impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels, high temperatures and humidity, wind, heat waves and extreme storms, which could impact such high-profile NASA sites as its Kennedy Space Center NASA identifies a number of potential risks, including damaged infrastructure, power failures that threaten communications systems, delayed launches, employee health and safety concerns, contamination and even threats to endangered species. It says it could expect the loss of land essential to launch operations, experience extensive downtime when its systems are disrupted, and asks Given the already degraded condition of much of NASAs infrastructure portfolio, how will NASA find the money to conduct necessary adaptations, repair failing infrastructure, and maintain mission tempo? The report is one of two dozen released by the federal government Friday that address what steps various government agencies are taking to address climate change.
They need to remember what Dr. Richard Feynman said about NASAs failure to embrace what is really important:
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." - Feynmans closing words,
Complete headline:
Eye roller: Climate Change Threatens NASA Space Operations AGW could pose a risk to its operations and missions
Settles it for ME.
NASA apparently approved Moslem self-esteem,
but was utterly unable to maintain the US lead in space.
Not to worry - NASA’s mission is now “Muslim Outreach”,
so AGW won’t have much effect.
Yeah, those 0-rings are temperature sensitive. We know.
Well, clearly the government can’t do this whole space thing anymore, so let’s just defund NASA and cut taxes.
Any sane President would find the idiot who wrote anything like this and publicly fire him for stupidity. The word would get around that they are there to use their scientific brains, not pander to political BS.
Just move everything to west Texas. Problem solved.
We could see icicles on the cctv feed from the pad. None of us worker bees there thought they were going to launch.
Somebody should inform the north and south poles, they don’t seem to have gotten the global warming message:
http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/
If you scroll trough the daily images (pay attention to scales), you’ll see that at this time, the combined average extent of ice, north and south, exceeds the 30-yr average they are using. It is of interest to note that the 30-yr average they are using is not a rolling average for the last 30-yrs, but rather a fixed period in time (1979-2010). Excluding the recent data serves to increase the “average” ice extent used for comparison. Despite the statistical trickery, we are on pace for a well-above average year for ice extent. Kind of weird considering the continued drum-beat of doom our global cooling deniers are spouting.
I’m surprised the two rocket failures last week weren’t blamed on Global Warming.
I have just one word to answer the political managers at NASA and the incompetents in the Executive Department...
CHALLENGER!
I'd buy a few...
I guess the stables were not totally cleaned out.
What’s the worry? We don’t even have a space program anymore!
it seems that having a president who viewed NASA’s mission as Muslim out reach was a greater threat to the space agency.
I know how to spell champagne. i know what I did. I do back background checks all over the U.S. and the spelling for one of the cities IS “Champaign”. It’s in Illinois...fitting...lol
