but everybody on board was dead.”
Wasn’t there a movie or TV program about a shop floating around with no one living on board or maybe even no one at all?

This ship of state is rudderless with no one at the helm.
A 300 foot long cargo ship is only as long as a football field. It is not that big actually. Limited space for commercial containers too.
CDC, under a capable president, would be all over this thing. But, expect zero scrutiny from Obola instead.

Which part is in error: the fiasco part or the insane part?

“Which part is in error: the fiasco part or the insane part?”
The “fiasco” part. I posted without reading properly and thought that Ebola patients from Africa were on the ship.
The “insane” part is,of course,correct.

1. anchor 2 miles offshore
2. get any closer without authorization, sink em
3. get names and pictures of everyone on board
4. send supplies as needed
5. every 5 days, get more pictures (could use a thermal scanner)
6. after 22 days, if EVERYONE is clear... let the ship dock.
6a. if EVERYONE is not clear... sink the boat
this is how you’d insure ebola doesn’t reach the shore from a foreign vessel, effectively quarantining everyone on board without risking anyone else
if horses must be quarantined for 60 days before entering the US, this is the least we can do

federal requirements already in place, as well as self-monitoring by the crew
I'm undecided if we should make a catch phrase drinking game or a new bingo like card game called ebola. We could list all the "crisis messaging" terms on the card.
If any one article results in the catch phrases all hitting vertical, horizontal or diagonal, then you have to post the link with an all caps bolded EBOLA.
The drinking game would be nice, but with all the messaging we would spend most of the day passed out on the floor. Secondly, is "federal requirements already in place, as well as self-monitoring" one drink or a double?
I think the EBOLA bingo card game is the way to go.

17 day crossing; if no one on board shows symptoms it’s likely just fine.

It is a US flag ship..so the crew must be US. It must haul freight for USAID since they require US Flag. From the ship owners website..it looks like military gear and oilfield stuff.

Thousands of air passengers a month, not being monitored, within a day from ebola infested countries enter the US. This vessel with probabaly 18-19 crew (US) is being monitored for 17 days. A 5 day additional quarantine is all that is needed.
You have a lot of planes to shoot down before this ship is much of a concern.

A couple of harpoons should minimize the threat.
