Hundreds of Colorado teachers banned for criminal behavior, zero for lousy teaching
KVDR ^ | October 31, 2014 | Chris Halsne and Chris Koeberl

Eighty-eight teachers over the last decade have been permanently removed from Colorado classrooms for sexual improprieties – the vast majority violating young victims from their own schools.

...

not a single teacher lost their license for simply being a weak educator of children. To get decertified, records show it usually takes felony-level criminal allegations or lying on the teaching certificate application about lesser crimes.

Karla Danzeisen says she spent years teaching Spanish to Denver high school students in a fog of pain pills, cocaine and methamphetamines.

She told Halsne, “I was using drugs every day. I was going to teach high. I was doing drugs with my students. Nothing I`m proud of, but it’s fact. It was happening.”

...

Danzeisen’s decertification file is one of 225 successful teacher revocation cases reviewed by FOX31 Denver. Like her, 33 teachers lost their licenses in the past ten years associated with drugs; teachers caught “possessing mushrooms,” “selling heroin,” stealing “prescriptions from the student medicine cabinet.”

Another 34 educators were decertified for essentially stealing from their schools

...

However, the most frequent reason for decertification is teachers caught having inappropriate sexual relationships – the vast majority of incidents involved their own students.

Wow. Lots more have been banned from teaching because of sex crimes than due to drug crimes or other crimes.

Any impropriety or illegality is troubling. But you wonder, can we do anything to judge the content of the character, or any other screening, to keep bad apples away from our children; to keep them out of the teaching profession?

Remove the Unions, as the unions fight any dismissal of any union dues paying member.

The union does not care about the students, as the students do not pay Union dues.

I’m afraid you may be correct. There are a few honorable but the core is under attack.

"Eighty-eight teachers over the last decade have been permanently removed from Colorado classrooms for sexual improprieties – the vast majority violating young victims from their own schools."

88 perps in one state in one decade - it seems that far outpaces the rate of abuse within the Catholic clergy. Yet we rarely hear about it, we rarely see stories about the problem of sex abuse in public schools. Where are the headlines? Where are the $500 million lawsuits?

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Oh, those fun-loving “educators”. I guess whatever they are doing it is “for the children”. Anyone who doesn’t home-school is not using good judgement.

That’s a great Halloween homeschooling thread. Someone needs to make a horror movie trailer about the public schools. It would be a bit hit.

Yes, it sure is frightening, CF. And these are only the crimes that were uncovered. One wonders how many other crimes are never found out about.
