Demographically, this just means that the gimmedats are polluting more conservative areas, diluting the strength of the responsible bloc. It’s what happened to Colorado when the California refuse moved there. And Washington. And Oregon. The only way to contain it is at the state level.

Yep. Take 7% of Dems from a 66-34% Dem area and send them to a 52-48% Rep area, and you've got something like a 59-41% Dem area and a 52-48% Dem area.
