Gentrification - happening in a number of large cities.
When the drive from the suburbs become too long the older inner city is “rediscovered”.
Older buildings are renovated. Those in poor condition are torn down and replaced by new construction. Folks running rental units find it profitable to sell for renovation or replacement.
The poor, usually black, are priced out and must move to other parts of the city where housing prices remain low.
The college needs land to build new dorms and other builings. When my son was attending back in 2010 over 50% of students were forced to live off campus in slum areas. Minorites rule at Temple.
Here in NJ that is happening along the Hudson River as money flees NYC. The displaced poor blacks aren’t moving to other parts of the city, though (those are already taken by foreigners); they are being steered towards Pennsylvania. When you live on public assistance there is no need to be near jobs and schools...
Which makes this an economic issue, not a racial issue - except that black Americans have suffered more under the current administration than under any other president. Therefore, if it a racial issue, it lies at the feet of the President.
as far as Temple, I can only say that my brother went there with his dtr to see about attending and he was so upset about the surroundings he refuses to let her go to college there..
