Wouldn’t this be along the same lines of having German or Japanese artifacts within a museum dedicated to WWII?
Yes, in some cultures, footwear placed next to a flag or showing the bottoms of shoes is a sign of disrespect. But that is not so in the American culture.
Its an odd display, not really well thought out and could use some filling out for certain. But I do not think it is an intentional act of disrespect.
I think it was done intentional ... the book ‘Pentagon Papers’ is a clue to the meaning of the display ...
