Las Cruces police were called to the lobby of the Hotel Encanto around 12:30 a.m. Monday, said spokesman Dan Trujillo, where they found Deputy Jeremy Martin, 29, who had been shot "multiple times." Martin, who was found bleeding profusely just outside the elevator, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The other deputy, who is being identified only as a 27-year-old man, is in custody, police said. He is being interviewed by detectives and charges are pending, police said.

Either a love triangle or drugs. If not, the shooter is totally insane—went off with little motive.

Why didnt they post his name? Anyone else would have been given that treatment. Looks like a coverup in the making.

My first thought was the shooter hit on the victim, got turned down, went nuts.
A New Mexico attorney confirms that his client, Santa Fe County sheriff’s Deputy Ty Chan, is in custody in connection with the deadly shooting of a fellow deputy.
Attorney John Day says he’s on his way to the southern New Mexico city of Las Cruces, where the shooting happened at a hotel following a night of drinking and arguing.
Las Cruces police say Chan allegedly fired several rounds at Jeremy Martin as Martin ran down a hotel hallway and into an elevator.
