Well, kinda but not quite.

Benedict's point was that Muslims believe islam to be a revealed religion in that Allah said it, and Mo and his ilk wrote it down. Sure, we Christians and Jews have some bits of revelation (10 Commandments, the words of Jesus, etc.) but we believe that the Spirit guided the individual writers and they weren't just transcribing. Only in that situation is reform and rethinking even possible. In other words - what do these words mean to the world today as well as back then. There's NO room in Islam for that.

On the other point, B16 (along with Vatican II) says that Allah and Jehovah are the same. Now neither statement is dogmatic (I don't think so at least!) and there are a lot of arguments about the point. The thought would be that they worship the God of Abraham but are completely wrong in their interpretation of Him.

Reasonable people can disagree. I used to not think that they worshiped the same God (regardless of what V2 stated) but I think so highly of B16 as a theologian that if he believes it, I in turn will switch to undecided. But I truly agree that this is a supernatural battle as well!

I don't disagree but there are Prots/Evangelicals that believe its merely some theological disputes, and other groups that believe that Catholics aren't even Christian.

Since Catholicism came first, isn't it Catholicism equally as insistent that Protestants aren't chrstians? Or if it isn't now, didn't it used to be that way?

In addition, I have a lot in common morally with Evangelicals as compared to denominations with women bishops, gay bishops, and who approve abortion. While I think that the (orthodox) Catholic approach is the "correct" one (or anti-Prot as you call it), I have a lot of respect for the integrity of Christians who have similar moral beliefs.

Is that a newsflash for you?

Considering the hateful, superior, and quasi-leftist scorn in which so many FR Catholics hold Fundamentalist Protestants--and their not infrequent use of such ethno-cultural slurs as "snake-handler," "bobble-toter," "Cletus," "brain-dead bibliolator," "Billy Bob's Glory Barn," etc., . . . yeah. It kind of is.

I certainly appreciate the pleasant surprise.

Is Billy aware that Hussein already knows his father?

What good is it to tell satanallahs son that he's satanallahs son?

Rebuke satan! Cast him out! He's a looser! Stop playing nice, and inviting him over for tea, you wont like his brand of sweetner anyway!

Yes Rev. Graham, not only a false religion but a religion of _real_ god. There is a god over every religion except the people and the Kingdom of Israel. They have the one and only true God: YHVH.

>>Christ said He’d build His church and that the gates of hell would not prevail against it. Therefore, all manner of restorationist theology and restorationist denominations from the late 1700’s and early 1800’s is premised on something Christ said wouldn’t happen.

The Protestant Reformation is a direct descendant of the original church. All Protestants are saddened that Rome made the Reformation necessary.

Re:all Protestants are saddened that Rome made the Reformation necessary
Catholics too are saddened about any corruption in the Church. However, my Catholic perspective is that Martin Luther and his fellow rebels did nothing to heal the Church. Instead they fragmented “the Rock” into bits of sand. Protestantism is the “house built on sand.”
Islam is not only false, but a remarkable counterfeit. Look how many Christian concepts are twisted in it.Baptism aped by ritual washing, for example. The wonderful prayer of the Sanctus aped by their ritual posturing. The church bells replaced by muezzin.

So you think that Indugences were scriptural? That’s what Luther tried to reform and the Roman Church threw him out for that (and would have killed him).

"The 1786 meeting in London of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the Tripolitan ambassador to Britain. As American ambassadors to France and Britain, respectively, Jefferson and Adams met with Ambassador Adja to negotiate a peace treaty and protect the United States from the threat of Barbary piracy.

These future United States Presidents questioned the ambassador as to why his government was so hostile to the new American republic even though America had done nothing to provoke any such animosity. Ambassador Adja answered them, as they reported to the Continental Congress,

...that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman [Muslim] who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.

Note that America's Barbary experience took place well before colonialism entered the lands of Islam, before there were any oil interests dragging the U.S. into the fray, and long before the founding of the state of Israel."

* Above quote is from Lecture #940, on National Security and Defense, Heritage Foundation, May 4, 2006.

Do not confuse the Reformation(ca. 1500’s) with the Restorationist movement that occurred in America in the late 1700’s, early 1800’s. They aren’t even close.

Stout fellow, Rev. Graham.

(Non-Christians, you’re excused, I’m speaking to my fellow Christians of whatever confession.) It should be pointed out that Islam is a false religion in a much stronger sense than Greco-Roman or Norse paganism, various strains of African animism, kami worship, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Taoism or any of the religions of pre-Columbian America.

Unlike all of these, it was deliberately constructed in opposition to the true faith, Christianity. Indeed, it was constructed as a rebellion against Christianity — there is a strong tradition among Arab Christians (supported, incidentally by recent textual analyses of the Qu’ran) that Mohammed started as a Nestorian Christian missionary commissioned by what is now the Assyrian Church of the East, who went rogue and set himself up as a warlord and “prophet” (or “apostle” — the Arabic word usually Englished as “prophet” is closer in meaning to “apostle”).

It is purely my own observation in support of the Arab Christian tradition about Mohammed, that at the time he began his activity in Arabia, the Nestorian bishop of what is now Kirkuk was one Mar Gabriel, and that the ancient tradition (evidenced in the Apocalypse of St. John) of calling the bishop of a city the “angel” of the city — still maintained in the Orthodox Diocese of Bosra-Haran, whose bishop bears the title “the Angel of Haran” — would mean that originally Mohammed would have been getting instructions from the angel (meaning bishop) Gabriel.

Nope. I was suggesting that Islam might be the Whore of Babylon.

No “religion” that rapes children and is into sex with multiple women (polygamy) is a religion, not Islam not Mormon.

My feeling is that the “Beast” of Revelation is Islam as the word beast is usually associated with a government or powerful influence. Allah is the anti-Christ and Muhammad is the False Prophet with the Whore of Babylon being the modern church which has fallen into apostasy and will willingly get into bed with whatever happens to be the latest IN thing.

I have long joined with those who say that Islam is not really a religion. It’s a government using a pseudo-religion as part of a battle plan to conquer.
