Uber, the popular car service, launched what it calls UberX this weekend in Philadelphia but this less expensive alternative has the Philadelphia Parking Authority threatening hefty fines and big penalties.
Only Action News was on scene as an UberX driver was busted by the Philadelphia Parking Authority.
Lee Rudakewich's car was impounded and he received a $1,000 fine.
"The first time I heard it was illegal was right now when I get busted for driving, nobody told me it was illegal before this," said Rudakewich.
"They are an illegal service provider. They're not licensed in the state of Pennsylvania or the county of Philadelphia. We are going to enforce the laws that are here," said Vince Fennerty, Philadelphia Parking Authority.

I've also said that the auto insurance industry is going to do more to shut these things down than governments do. A lot of these insurance policies don't look kindly on a motorist who runs a cab service in his free time.
We can’t have any private-enterprising entrepreneurs out there creating jobs now, can we?
I wonder what would happen if an illegal immigrant was driving for Uber ?
The most corrupt city in America is suddenly going to enforce the law...
Communist bastards. Says it all.
The partnership of business and government, the rich elites and the Uniparty.
Under all the noisy rhetoric about how different the political parties are is the truth.....the D’s and R’s for sale to campaign cash cow businesses....
Actually this might be pretty hilarious. Remember the Obamacult priest David Plouffe? I think he is a big executive at that company.
The statist being slapped around by the gubmint.
Even for regular Uber, you have to have a newer car and insurance etc....most illegals, not all, do not have the wherewithal for Uber
I’m almost positive Über and Lyft have the proper insurance policies in place.
It’s been a while since I looked at the issue, but I remember that upon research, that the right things were being done to have proper coverage.
Don’t governments get pi**ed-off when they can’t tax, regulate, control or destroy? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Uber and Lyft may offer supplemental insurance to their drivers in the event they get involved in an accident with a passenger in the car. But more and more personal insurance carriers are prohibiting their insured drivers from using their cars as a taxi service.
Good.
