Tom Steyer: The Green Billionaire Pouring Millions Into The Midterms Former hedge fund executive has given nearly $56m and taken a stand against the Koch brothers by boosting liberal candidates in close races

Suzanne Goldenberg 26 October 2014 10.02 EDT

Tom Steyer has spent nearly $56m in competitive Senate and gubernatorial races. The green billionaire Tom Steyer this week solidified his status as the leading patron of environmental causes in American politics, with the announcement that he had given nearly $56m to make climate change a top-tier issue in the midterm elections.

With just days to go until the elections, it was revealed that Steyer had poured an additional $15m of his personal fortune into his NextGen Climate Action Fund, raising his contributions to $55.9m, according to Federal Election Commission filings on Monday night.

The former hedge fund executive has now emerged as the biggest single donor of this election cycle – at least as far as publicly disclosed donations are concerned – and a favorite new punching bag for Republican opponents, a role previously reserved for Al Gore.

The ready cash could make Steyer the kingmaker of these elections – if his bets on candidates in seven key Senate and gubernatorial races come in.

The NextGen Climate Change wack jobs are running ads in the governor’s race here in Maine, cutting apart our conservative governor who’s up for re-election, Paul LePage.

Paul LePage is still ahead in the latest poll, for whatever polls are worth.

So all the money he stole from the taxpayers to get rich on government sponsored "Green Energy" programs is laundered sufficiently to go back to the politicians who wrote the checks in the first place?

Nice.............

Thank goodness we have a media and press who stays on top of these abuses./s

The Lear Jet Leftists expect to form the core of the global Green Inner Party. They will continue to enjoy the finest foods and most advanced gadgets the world has to offer — while deciding your fate for you.

If you work very hard and show them your unwavering loyalty, you may be permitted to join the global Green Outer Party. You will be allowed occasional servings of meat - and air conditioning on a rationed basis.

The rest of us will eat insects and swelter – “for the good of the planet”

Can we ask why it’s okay with liberals for this dude to inject all this money into politics, but, the Koch brothers are evil for injecting money into political causes and candidates they support???? Can liberals ever be intellectually honest about anything???

If liberals are concerned about big money in politics, they need to also criticize people who support liberal causes who do this, not just the Koch brothers.

As a peasant, I say let them eat Kobe Beef, as each meal and private jet ride gets them that much closer to their own nightmare brewing out here in fly-over land.

One day a catering stop in Grant's Pass, or a Jet A fuel stop in Iowa, or a flat tire on their limousine, or that special tasting soup at the Peabody, and they will be met with a public who might let them escape with the clothes on their back.

$54 million.

Yet, according to many of the Dems’ ads, it is the Pubbies who try to buy elections.

Pryor (D-AR) is running those kinds of ads in Arkansas, accusing Cotton (R-AR) of being bought off by none other than the Koch Brothers and other billionaires affiliated with Wall Street.

[I haven’t seen any breakdowns of where Pryor’s money is coming from. Of course, Pryor thinks the ‘average’ salary in Arkansas is $200,000, when it is actually closer to $28,000. The ad reporting that kind of stings Pryor as being grossly out of touch.]

Steyer likes natural gas and is invested in it, so he wants coal plants and Keystone (his competitors) shut down at the expense of average Americans. He is against fracking too but mainly he is against oil fracking.
