Classic muscle cars like a vintage 1965 Ford Mustang are pretty desirable. World Series tickets, apparently, are even more desirable.
That appears to be one mans thinking, anyway. Kansas City Royals fan Jerod Main has decided to sell his 1965 Stang for $24,000, which might seem like a bargain for such a classic, but it should be enough to cover the cost of tickets for his family of six, which are starting at just over $400, according to a quick Stubhub search. Those prices are subject to change, of course, and tickets might be selling for even more after last nights game.
On the other hand, perhaps the amount makes sense, as Main wants to see a game in both cities, so the Missouri resident would presumably have travel costs to deal with, as well.
As for the car the restomod Mustang has 289 cubic-inch V8 and a four-speed manual transmission, but Main figures he can get another car soon enough after all, its been 29 years since the Royals last appeared in the Fall Classic.
Still, there must be another way to get tickets instead of selling the Mustang. Does Main not have any other valuable possessions to sell? Couldnt he donate blood or take a temporary second job? Baseball is great, but a World Series game is a three-hour eventeventually Main will have to go home. The Mustang, though, could be his forever.
It may not seem logical to most people, but hey, who says sports fandom is logical anyways?
I'd like to see one of the games, I've always liked the SF Giants, Willie Mays is one of my all time favorite ball players. But, Dude, SERIOUSLY?!?
Sweeeet! I’d love to own that car! He’ll probably end up in a bidding war and get 30K+.
Only an idiot would sell his 65 Ford ‘Stang.
A game is once, a car is forever.
55 Years is long enough to keep a car. He got his money’s worth.
A WS between two somewhat teams for that Mustang? He’d have more enjoyment with friends at a sports bar and cheaper food/adult beverages.
That man either likes Baseball too much or needs a shrink. Because that is a stupid move. Oh well, his car will make someone happy and filthy rich.
????
I’d watch the game on widescreen and keep the car.
Sports fans are nuts1 Paying big bucks to watch someone else play a game? I’d rather see lots of friendly neighbor hood games.
Living vicariously is hardly living.
MGD is a total car nut, and, as the father of three girls, has had his moments when he would have appreciated a boy in the family.
"Hey, girls, look! It's a '69 Cutlass GT with a 351 Cleveland!"
"Uh-huh."
"Dad, did you know Derek just got a different car?"
"Really? What kind?"
"A green one."
It was a joke :)
There is a world series going on?
That’s a funny story. The dialog between Dad and daughter is totally believable, including the girl’s sardonic response. My guess is this man has lots of other unique cars or tangible investments.
There are a LOT of Mustangs out there.
(pout...) I never had a sine either...le’Sob...
My daughter was an F22 jet mechanic ;)
Edit...SON!!! Grrrr...
I got to see game 3 of the ‘63 World Series. Paid full price for a field box ticket$16. Missed the only run of the game in the bottom of the 1stgot caught in trafficheard the roar of the crowd in the parking lot. Did get to see a gem pitched by Drysdale.
I applaud the guy. Now the car will be owned by someone who will appreciate it.
Sports mania is a mental disorder.
