Police in Ferguson committed human rights abuses: Amnesty report

Police in Ferguson, Missouri, committed human rights abuses as they sought to quell mostly peaceful protests that erupted after an officer killed an unarmed black teenager, an international human rights organization said in a report released on Friday.

The Amnesty International report said law enforcement officers should be investigated by U.S. authorities for the abuses, which occurred during weeks of racially charged protests that erupted after white Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown, 18, on Aug. 9.

The use by law enforcement of rubber bullets, tear gas and heavy military equipment and restrictions placed on peaceful protesters all violated international standards, the group said.

Amnesty said it sent a delegation to Ferguson from Aug. 14-22 to monitor the situation.

So, was there a similar Amnesty Intl report on abuses in Watertown after the Boston Marathon bombing?

I hope President Cruz declares Amnesty International to be a terrorist organization.

The real outrage is that Walmart still hasn't restocked the 60" plasma TVs in its Ferguson store.

This is racism against looters!

I’ll read that “report” after I read AI’s “report” from ISIS-held towns.

Thank you. I have not forgotten that. Our son lives 3 miles from where they captured the bad guy. He was on lock down for the day although they didn’t search his home. He’s a lib but he thought it was pretty bad.

Reuters is Britain’s last-gasp effort to keep alive the legacy of Lord Haw-Haw.

Real name William Joyce, the notorious wartime villain was used by Nazis for a series of propaganda broadcasts aimed at undermining the spirit of the nation. He was hanged at Wandsworth Prison in 1946.

These lame-os in AI need to go to Khobani to report on real abuses.

Rooters and AI must be tickled pink by the news of the Jamaica Beach hatchet attack.

They should be - they're part of that story, too.

I would not have complied with any lockdown. If I need something from the store, I plan to go to the store.

They can suggest I stay in my home but I have no obligation to take that suggestion.

As much concern as I have for the mob violence that has occurred (and I expect will occur again) in Ferguson, I have a hard time just saying "this military response of the cops in Ferguson is fine" and blowing it off.

Just like, after the Boston Marathon bombing, I wanted the cops to catch the suspects, but I had a hard time stomaching the military mobilzation of the cops there.

It's such a fine line. On the one hand, there are situations where the cops legitimately need this equipment and need to use these tactics. On the other hand, it feels like we keep sliding further and further towards a police state.

Those folks were ransacking stores and burning cars and stuff but they were doing it peacefully.

It wasn’t the best of really only terrible choices but, it was a choice that caused dispersion and that was necessary.

I agree. When police failed to shoot looters on sight, they violated the property owners’ right to be secure in their property. Taxpayers hire police for protection from thieves and sociopaths. The Communist International front group just doesn’t get it.

Is not relying on Reuters for reporting akin to relying on Obama for science?
