Is it just me, or is campaign advertising significantly low this year? I rarely hear advertisements--the kind that usually fill the airwaves by now. It's like the Republicans don't want to say anything that would give the Dems fodder, and the Democrats don't want to say anything to remind them they share the same party as Obama.

I live in Indiana, by the way. Other states?

You’re in Indiana? So no US Senate or gubernatorial race? I think that would explain the low number of ads for you.

Over the top here in Colorado. Two thirds of the television commercials are political as is 80 percent of snail mail. Am averaging more than 6 phone calls per day.

There’s a bit of back and forth between Hogan (RINO) and Brown (Dimrat) in the state of Maryland. Hogan is actually doing pretty good for a Republican in Maryland. Of course that doesn’t say much about his conservatism. Indeed...

...a couple of months ago Brown ran some attack ads accusing Hogan of (gasp) wanting to end abortions and (double gasp) limit access to birth control. You would never know he was running in a state that is supposed to be the historical seat of Catholicism in the US for how quickly Hogan ran to the microphones (or really ran his daughter to the microphones) to set the record straight on that! You could almost hear him breathe a sigh of relief too saying “thank God she’s a minority too, I love her so much” (she’s asian)

... Also he’s had Crispy Creme (the Gov of NJ) come and campaign for him a few times.

This all gives you an idea of what kind of campaign is being run here. Classic GOPe strategy. If not mentality in the candidate himself to boot. Somewhat fiscally conservative but socially? Not a chance. Too many unwanted babies to kill (heaven forbid one of the darlings of a pol gets pregnant and there’s no way to “get rid of it”. It’s the hicks anyway who believe in this life at conception crap). Or even better: who’s the wiser if you still go to communion even while using birth control? God understands anyway.

Yeah. It’s that type of race. So who really cares anyway right? Maybe that’s why there’s such a paucity of ads at least here in MD. It’s not exactly an inspiring race. So why spend the money on ads?

(Not that stopped Brown a few weeks ago running ads literally claiming Hogan wanted “assault rifles” on school grounds and that Hogan wants to deprive school funding in favor of, you guessed it, “tax cuts for the rich”. IOW, the usual leftist clap-trap)

Like I said: uninspiring. For both sides of the proverbial “isle”.

Don’t know because I record the programs I watch and fast forward beyond commercials etc., and I never watch the news.

Lou, it is constant here in NH. We have three races that are toss ups with 2 weeks to go. Our US Senator, and both US Congress races are within the margin or error. The only one polling 50% is the governors race for the democrat(:(

Also, we only have one major affiliate here, ABC- WMUR out of Manchester, NH. If you turn on that channel it is one political ad after the other, especially around dinner time. Plus we get constant polling calls at our house and even on our cell phones. There is huge money being spent here.

Plus most of our TV comes out of Boston. Down in Mass they have a closely contested Governor’s race. The Republican may actually win. Again it is too close to call.

It ALL depends on turnout. The Gallop polls show that Republican turnout will be much bigger than Democrat turnout this year. This means the democrat candidate has to be up by more than the margin of error in the polls to win.

The airways here in Iowa are packed with political ads (radio and TV). Our phone is ringing off the hook every day due to pollsters.

The Republicans have invested heavily in advertising throughout the state.
