The Death of Ben Bradlee
The American Spectator ^ | Oct. 22, 2014 | Ben Stein

Posted on 10/22/2014 9:33:41 AM PDT by AU72

I was staggered by something that had long been lurking in my old brain and now becomes crystal clear. But, here comes the best part: he was a spook (Bradlee), a full-scale CIA operative for much of his life. He worked for the CIA in Europe and throughout the world. Now, they say he did PR work for the Agency, and why not? But in Washington, we have a saying: Once CIA, always CIA. A brilliant man named Fred Thompson wrote about how Watergate was a giant CIA-organized frame-up of Richard Nixon by CIA people who hated him. But what I have always wondered about was the timing: the plot to get Nixon, if there was such a plot, it came about at the same time that Richard Nixon was opening China. This meant stalemating, then checkmating the Soviets in their quest for world domination. I am far from the first person who has suspected that the Soviets had a powerful cadre within the CIA doing their bidding. This brings me to point two: I wonder if the whole Watergate affair was set up by the CIA, and then information about it was dripped out to the Post and other entities to make sure RN was punished for encircling Mother Russia. The fact that Mr. Bradlee was a CIA man (according to Wikipedia) makes me wonder how the gears actually worked inside the conspiracy to depose Richard Nixon. Was Bob Woodward a CIA agent? I have heard it said he was, but I surely don’t know. Anyway, Mr. Nixon is deceased now and so is Mr. Bradlee and so will I be and life goes on but it would be nice to know just what roles the KGB and the CIA had in the media coup against Nixon.

That is a take on Watergate I haven't seen. E. Howard and his merry band were heavy on CIA associations. Perhaps the break-in was bungled on purpose. But putting the KGB into the mix is interesting at least.

Don’t know much about Ben Bradlee and don’t care.

It’s crystal clear, however, that Richard Nixon was hounded out of office for things that, these days, wouldn’t even get you a slap on the wrist.

If so, it's success would have hinged on Nixon doing what he did - i.e. - the coverup.
If Nixon had thrown all of them under the bus in the beginning, he'd have stayed in office.

Also for things that a number of his Democrat acronym predecessors, LBJ, JFK, FDR were allowed to get away with.

It wasn’t that Nixon had done wrong, he clearly had, but that he was held to a different standard by people deliberately out to destroy him.

Unless of course they are Republicans, then they still are hounded out of office.

I have long thought an American intelligence service in concert with the leftist mainstream media may well have orchestrated Nixon’s downfall. Ditto the CIA employee Vaerie Plame brouhaha that the leftist media used to hobble George W Bush’s presidency.

similiar to what I read in Silent Coup by Glenn Colodnay where they explored Woodward ties to Naval Intelligence and Nixon went by a coup by the intelligence agenices.

With all due respect, Nixon did things like using the IRS to punish his political enemies. It resulted in articles of impeachment against him. You would never see anything like that today, oh, wait.

Nixon made the attempt, but never got that far.

Obama is in a league by himself.

Considering the persecution Nixon faced from Bradlee and Katherine Graham and the other Postholes, this could be believable.

It would also explain the clear double standard regarding the coverage of Nixon’s wrongdoings versus Obola’s.

Nixon had an enemies list, but never used the IRS for pay-back.
