Lying, especially lying by public officials, particularly offended Mr. Bradlee. He wrote and lectured on the subject for decades.
It appears that Mr. Bradlee gained a relative tolerance for lying by public officials around 2008.
On another note, the only thing that could exacerbate the mawkishness of the linked article would be the knowledge that Mr. Bradlee had written it himself.
