Florida Gov. Rick Scott is launching a new ad Monday that ties Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist with Barack Obama, including a photo of their infamous 2009 embrace.
The Republican becomes the first gubernatorial candidate to deploy the clip of the president saying, Im not on the ballot this fall, but make no mistake: these policies are on the ballot. Every single one of them.
Charlie Crist backed Obama from the start, a narrator says in the 30-second spot, shared first with POLITICO. If you liked the last six years of Barack Obama, youll love the next four years of Charlie Crist.
Crist, who became a Democrat less than two years ago, has been very careful not to distance himself from the president. Hed previously expressed openness to having Obama campaign for him in the state, which the president carried twice. But Florida was not on the White Houses list of presidential travel Joe Biden and Michelle Obama are coming instead and Crists team would prefer not to nationalize the race.
Two polls last week showed a tied contest, with Obama a potential drag on the Democrat. A CNN/ORC poll put Obamas approval rating at 39 percent, with 57 disapproving nearly identical to the 38 percent who approved in a Tampa Bay Times poll.
The new ad features a clip of Crist at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, reflecting on when he hugged Obama in 2009 and endorsed the stimulus law. I was proud to embrace him and his plan, Crist says. And he still does, the narrator says.
Then theres a clip from an Obama reelection rally in 2012, where Crist says: Let me tell you why Im here: I love Barack Obama.
Scott will campaign Monday with Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, who made Crists support for the stimulus an issue in the 2010 Senate race, in Miami.
Crist and Scott debate again Tuesday night, live on TV in the state and nationally on CNN.
OK, Gov. Scott: Ride that horse until Election Day.
Agree. Little else needs to be said.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwww! I'm going to need weapons grade bleach to wash that image out of my mind.
All Democrats must be linked to Obama and his one world/no borders ideology.
I don’t know, that might actually help Crist in Floriduh, after all they went for Obama in both 2008 and 2012....
I’m surprised the lefties are saying that Christ is being smeared by this. “He’s being swiftboated!”
As they shed the cloths the hands begin to wander!
Who knows what happened when the cameras left? But it seems Barrack must have said something good about it to Meechelle.
I would ride that horse for along time. He has done a piss poor job since day one when he was in office.
I am not a big fan of EITHER guy, but I will hold my nose and do my duty... unless it looks like the results will not be that close, will vote third party.

Yes, but, about 20 percent of the people who voted for Obama in 2012, regret in now in 2014. His job approval rating now is at 39 percent.
That add is being played all the time down here, and it is devastating.

I wonder why the Scott campaign waited so long about making and running an ad like that?
Will you be watching the Debate tomorrow night?
Why is this ad not being copied for every Dem running for office? Just cut and paste any D Senator, show them embracing Obama, and ride that horse all the way to the election.

I think they are, finally. I heard a similar ad hitting Michelle Nunn y’day. I’m in NE florida so the GOP must be going all in if they are running GA ads on a FL radio station.
I want to see Morgan and Morgan get defeated twice on Election Day... Charlie Crist (a lawyer at Morgan and Morgan) and the medical marijuana get defeated.
