Why the real battle for America is over culture, not elections
New York Post ^ | October 19, 2014 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 10/19/2014 4:34:29 PM PDT by Sherman Logan

Though his new collection of essays, “The Undocumented Mark Steyn: Don’t Say You Weren’t Warned” (Regnery), recounts many of the biggest political events of recent history, bestselling author Steyn says that’s not the real battleground. While everyone is focused on the 2014 midterms, the question about where our country is headed is being decided in our entertainment and our schools. Here, in an excerpt from the book, he explains how culture is king.

Over the past few decades, I’ve seen enough next-presidents-of-the-United-States for several lifetimes: Phil Gramm, Pete Wilson, Bob Dornan, Bob Dole, Elizabeth Dole, Orrin Hatch, Gary Bauer, Lamar Alexander, Tom Tancredo, Tommy Thompson, Alan Keyes.

Would it have made any difference to the country had any of these fine upstanding fellows prevailed? Or would we be pretty much where we are anyway? Aside from a trade agreement here, a federal regulation there, I’d plump for the latter. You can’t have conservative government in a liberal culture, and that’s the position the Republican Party is in.

I believe Mark is 100% right.

Drove a lot of miles last week. Listening to the radio I noticed something interesting.

Conservative talk radio is about politics pretty much exclusively.

NPR had all kinds of programs. Not all had some kind of a political slant, but those that did were of course always liberal.

So only people interested in conservative politics hear the conservative POV. People interested in stories and all kinds of things get a dose of liberal notions taken for granted.

Ideas that are taken for granted are the most foundational.

Yes, this is why schools are so important. Dewey knew it, Solomon knew it, and the leftist NEA knows it. Proverbs 22:6:Train up a child [a]in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

That is why the home school movement is taking off and charter schools are so reviled by the NEA. It is a matter of culture. Abolish public schools, pay for your child’s schooling and you will get better schools, moral children, less crime, lower taxes and less corruption by school boards wanting more and more money for failing schools.

I’ve been saying it all along. Support good conservative and pro American media.

AMC’s “Turn” is a good historical drama about Washington’s Culper spy ring. Its been picked up for a second season.

Just yesterday I discovered that actress Lacey Chabert appears to be a very Christian girl who walks the walk. She’s probably best known for playing the young sister in the Lost In Space movie some years back. I’m no fan of romantic comedies but she stars in “Christian Mingle”. From what I’ve read she tries the online dating service and finds a dedicated Christian man who leads her to rediscover her faith.

The same is true of supporting conservative art and music.

Indeed — it's why The Hero's Journey is so pervasive.

Supplying lies alongside factual information is a Goebbels propaganda technique. It increases the acceptance of the lies as fact by the receiving audience.

God is our only hope now. I firmly believe we are very, very close to the End of Days. If anyone has not given their heart to Jesus Christ yet, now would be a good time.

Sadly our “culture” is now as toxic as a petri dish full of ebola

When so-called conservative talking heads, pols, and radio show hosts use leftist-originated words and phrases like "gay" for homosexual and "persons of color" for non-white people, we slip another rung on the ladder.

Many of these "conservatives" think being conservative is all about dollars and cents and damn societal implications. Then suddenly people of the cloth are threatened with arrest for not performing "gay" marriages and asked to turn in their Sunday sermons for inspection by the fascists. Culture matters.

Mark Steyn is a better American than large numbers of those who were born here. Seriously.

The Pravda Media is in bed (literally) with the DNC/Obama Administration.

The Obama Administration is purchasing messaging content (on behalf of Obamacare and other government programs) into television fiction (including Mad Men, which leads me to believe the strongest influence was in the DVD supplements, but also elsewhere in the scripting; there was even a dig at Mitt Romney’s dad in 2012).

Unless you establish new networks and studios, you are p!ssing upwind.

NPR politicizes their language “gameshows” the humor in “Prairie Home Companion” and every little thing. The Democrat mantra is politicize EVERYTHING.

Dennis Prager’s program discusses male/female relations for one hour a week, God for one hour a week, and a variety of other topics. Bill Bennett discusses other matters as well. Michael Savage (not his real name) isn’t as conservative as he presents himself but apart from that his radio program included bits on literature, television programming, food, and nostalgia.

I gave up on television in 2008. Even the ads are offensive (both the movie ads, highlights of tv news broadcasts, PC PSAs, and ads for tv programs). I got tired of being bombarded with propaganda at every turn. I can choose to watch a program and know that it may have stilted content, but I am not being attacked even during the “breaks” because there are none (only when I press “PAUSE”).

God is our only hope now.

Our help is in The Lord, who made Heaven and Earth.

It has never been otherwise.
