Islamic Burial Rituals Blamed for Spread of Ebola Virus in Africa
Investors Business Daily ^ | 10-17-14 | Paul Sperry

Islam isn't just at the heart of the terror threat posed by the Islamic State. The religion is also contributing to the other major crisis plaguing the globe: the spread of Ebola.

Washington and its media stenographers won't tell you this, lest they look intolerant, but Islamic burial rituals are a key reason why health officials can't contain the spread of the deadly disease in West Africa.

Many of the victims of Ebola in the three hot-spot nations there — Sierra Leone and Guinea, as well as neighboring Liberia — are Muslim. Roughly 73% of Sierra Leone's and about 85% of Guinea's people are Muslim. Islam, moreover, is practiced by more than 13% of Liberians.

When Muslims die, family members don't turn to a funeral home or crematorium to take care of the body. In Islam, death is handled much differently.

Relatives personally wash the corpses of loved ones from head to toe. Often, several family members participate in this posthumous bathing ritual, known as Ghusl.

Before scrubbing the skin with soap and water, family members press down on the abdomen to excrete fluids still in the body. A mixture of camphor and water is used for a final washing. Then, family members dry off the body and shroud it in white linens.

Again, washing the bodies of the dead in this way is considered a collective duty for Muslims, especially in Muslim nations. Failure to do so is believed to leave the deceased "impure" and jeopardizes the faithful's ascension into Paradise (unless he died in jihad; then no Ghusl is required).

Before the body is buried, Muslims attending the funeral typically pass a common bowl for use in ablution or washing of the face, feet and hands, compounding the risk of infection.

This would not bother me that much except for the fact we have a Muslim or syncophant president who wants to spread that mental illness and physical disease here.

Islam. It’s just one big disease, isn’t it?

For all I’ve read of these traditional burial practices, this is the first time I’ve seen a writer actually name Islam as a the root of it.

I wonder if the Islamic connection to the victims is contributing to Barry’s continuing to give them visas and refusing the shut down their travel here.

Go figure. This is the first time I have been able to read this. Here is the REASON for the rapid spread there and the reason they attacked a burial team and killed people. Idiots. Let the disease run over there. Just let it go....

It figures their funeral rituals would be as primitive as all their other cultural practices. I’m surprised they don’t hook out the brains of the deceased through their noses, or kill a few cats and pigeons to accompany them on their journey to the Afterlife.

This truly is Darwinism at work. Left alone, these backward bozos would die out in a few generations and Africa could be put to good use. Like a parking lot for the Sixth Fleet.

I agree. I would imagine it is rare to find what we term a funeral home in most of Africa. Before such establishments here in our country, the family also performed similar tasks. How the dead are buried in any religion is a critical subject because it is believed to influence their beloved’s afterlife.

Additionally, from what I have read, many of the traditional rituals are being abandoned in the Ebola epidemic with corpses being simply put into the street to be picked up. Again, this is similar to what happens in these types of events throughout history. Just read about the Yellow Fever Epidemic in Philadelphia in the late 1700’s.

On the up side, this would be a Darwinian end to the moose-limbs.

Yes. Good examples. There are plenty of reasons to be critical of Islam, but not related to Ebola. I think the first family to come down with the disease in Guinea were actually animistic because the article in NY Times talked about the family calling for the local witch doctor to help treat the sick. It was only after the grandmother protested, that they contacted local health officials. But it still took three months before they realized it was Ebola.

What happens if a moose-limb body is blown to bits. Do they still wash the body?

According to the article, washing is not required if the person died from jihad!

WHY can’t we just spread this crap to ISIS??

Considering the BO's regime would give them a fast track visa to get into this country, I'm not so sure that is a good idea.

To Mr. Sperry and all those who read his article:

The characterization

"Washington and its media stenographers"
is priceless! Perfect for pre-election use.

May I add "islamophobia" is also misspelled...should reflect the true nature of the cult and the accusation. The correct spelling ...

"islamofauxbia".

Ebola bodies. Just hose them down with gasoline and burn them in place.

Not in my religion. (Catholicism) In my religion, one's state in the afterlife is dependent on one's relationship with God at the time of death, not where one is buried, whether there is a pig in the grave, etc.
