The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits fell to a 14-year low last week, a positive signal that could counter doubts over whether the economy is shifting into a higher gear.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 23,000 to a seasonally adjusted 264,000, the lowest level since 2000, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
The decline suggests the labor market is gaining steam even as worries grow that the economy will not be strong enough for the Federal Reserve to hike interest rates around the middle of next year.

This is the fifth straight week it has been the below 300,000 and the first time I have seen it this low since I have been monitoring it for over 5 years.
It's fun with Thursday jobs numbers once again...

BULLSTALIN, just because the government kicked them off unemployment checks doesn’t mean that people have JOBS or aren’t LOOKING for JOBS.

Baloney.
What is our long-term unemployment?
93,000,000.
To: SeekAndFind
A mess of people have been bought off with disability, etc. or just given up - one can’t apply for unemployment if they haven’t had a job.

More people have just given up looking and moved in with families. I’ve never known so many people out of work or had their income lowered as I have with this current president .

Exactly.
Like the millions of kids just out of school who do not qualify for unemployment.

I suppose this will be all over the mainstream media. They have orders to distract us from the Ebola epidemic.

The economy can bleed for only so long. At this point only the workforce participation rate is relevant.

A little too coincidental in light of the upcoming elections. The only certainty is that one can't believe anything that comes from this administration.

That and the fact that 0’s “recovery” has been nothing but part-time jobs for the past five years. Losing a part-time job doesn’t rate you an unemployment check-you’re just S.O.L.
