Run, Mitt, run. Yes, run far, far away from the Republican primary season that starts in 2015. You may be a fine man, but you are not going to be president, and you are not the answer for the Republicans in 2016. You could have/should have been both perhaps, but you blew it.
Now, I hate to even think about the 2016 election with the 2014 mid terms still weeks away, but this nightmarish Groundhog Day idea of Romney 2016 just will not go away. Most recently, the Washington Post chronicled how campaign events for Joni Ernst in Iowa and Scott Brown in New Hampshire devolved into Mitt 2016 love fests.
Yes, Iowa and New Hampshire. Mere coincidence, right? Hardly. The Post makes it clear that many of Mitts top supporters and donors want him to run and more importantly, he is doing nothing to discourage this. Not only does he want to run, but he obviously wants to be begged to run to boot.
So as a public service, consider this top-ten list of why this losing notion should be put out of its misery.
10. BENGHAZI: When Mitt got thrown off his game in the second debate on the issue of Benghazi thanks to CNNs Candy Crowley the trajectory of the election changed. To give him the benefit of the doubt, big Candy was sure that the administration was on top of the real cause of the attacks. However, Mitt then refused to revisit the issue and clear things up in the third debate, or even in the campaign messaging.
9. NICE GUY: After virtually calling Newt Gingrich the devil for four months, Romney and his campaign then thought they could run an Obama is a nice guy who is simply over his head template

Loved the article CEW! I think FR will too.
Any GOP candidate who cannot summon a more spirited opposition to the thing we have had in the White House for the past few years than Mitt did in '12 must simply have too much in common with him.
Mitt is a great guy-!
He should run-
with John McCain as his running mate!

I think the electorate by and large have the misguided view that the abomination in the WH is well-meaning but woefully incompetent. They will be looking for competence more than anything else and the conventional wisdom is that Romney possesses competence in spades.
The Mittster would probably be a fine president, but the unfortunate part is he doesn’t have the killer instinct the next candidate needs.
Good article. My personal favorites are Benghazi and campaign strategy. They are intimately related, because I assume someone sat around a table and discussed avoiding Benghazi. While I loved the “big Candy” moniker, I’m still amazed that the campaign didn’t go after that moderator intervention for the administration. First, Gingrich would have been savvy enough to have done so immediately and devastatingly as only Gingrich knows how. Second, Benghazi was hot in conservative minds. Third, Benghazi was ANOTHER in an already growing list of Obama Lies.
My point 11, if I could have added it would be: Don’t Piss Off Social Conservatives. Why? They’re a strange breed, and like it or not, they WILL stay home. And he didn’t gain a darn thing for that bad strategic move.
On your point 11 - yes, that could be part of the list for sure. Somewhat similar can be said of the liberty minded group - that percentage of Paul bot nation who will do the right thing if given some reason to do so. With Chick Fil-A, Mitt had the opportunity to connect with both groups. Many libertarians were with Chick Fil-A because they were a private company being attacked by thug government via permits and the like. Bad bad miss.
And yeah, Newt would have torn Candy a new one and embarrassed her - and won the day on that point. No doubt. As you said, “as only Newt can.” No media figure, even the beloved Megyn Kelly, won when they challenged Newt. NONE. (Newt was beaten by Newt, but that’s another topic...)
I agree about the Paul Bots. The bottom line is that Romney seemed to reject natural allies in favor of what I think was a desire to attract moderate liberals. That’s a fool’s errand, because once they get in the polling booth, they pull the lever for a real liberal rather than a clandestine liberal. (More dumb strategy, because the number of social conservatives/paul bots he alienated would have taken him over the top.)
Have I said that I agree with you. Another Mitt run would be a real pain in the ____. It gives me a headache just thinking that it could really happen. Then Mitt can be 3-time loser.
Worth repeating, so I repeated your words. That in a nutshell is the disease and delusion the estabs suffer from: the notion that if moderates and liberals hate us a little less, they'll vote for us. NEVER EVER EVER works.
Good Newt Tears Juan Williams a new one ....
sorry. I can't pass up a chance to post this ...
Lol
you can NEVER post too many videos of Newt when he’s on a roll. They’re ALWAYS fun and ALWAYS so illustrative......of HOW TO WIN.
Great article, you nailed it.
I think that this is your sequel. It follows straight from Chapter 12 ... "Okay? What Now? Are We Toast?"
No, he isn't.
Too bad almost all the people Freepers keep talking about also lost ....to Romney. They are all damaged goods. We need some new energetic candidate that can win!
That says more about the voting public than FReepers.
And, FReepers like myself who talk about Newt, are speaking of using his strategy and methods rather than Newt himself.
Cruz/Palin 2016
Actually, the point was “may” be a fine man.
And second, in many ways, he is. Not all ways mind you, but many.
