President Obama Stuck as Bystander With Senate in Balance
ABC News ^ | October 15, 2014 | By Rick Klein

President Obama’s agenda is on the ballot next month. This we know from the president himself.

Now we also know where that same president will actually be during the three weeks before Election Day. Barring last-minute additions, he will be nowhere near where the election is actually playing out in the most important manner: the races that will determine control of the Senate.

Based on polls, it’s hard to question the decision to relegate Obama to bystander status. The new ABC News-Washington Post poll out today puts the president’s approval rating at a career-low 40 percent; he’s almost certainly nowhere near that number in the states with key Senate races this year.

Barack Obama, of course, ran as a uniter who would transcend partisan politics.

What does he care? He can veto anything that comes through a GOP congress, he’s immune to impeachment, and he still has his f’n pen. It’s going to be a rough ride, regardless of who controls the Senate.

Two years of golf, vacations, and planning the three branches of the Baraq Hussein Obama Presidential Library and Choom Gang Museum.

Then a tough career decision....Grand Caliph of ISIS, President of the UN, or MSNBC commentator?

Grand Caliph. The other ISIS/Islamist leaders are doing it wrong.

I think he’s barred from the UN as ex-leader of a Security Council country, and MSNBC... that’s not prestigious enough.

ISIS stole a half bil in Iraq, so there should be no problem with the “salary cap”

Yep. Nothing will change. He will continue to rule by decree, and Congress won’t do anything to stop him.

If the Republicans control the Senate, then at least conservative Senators will have the opportunity to filibuster Obama's far left wing judicial appointments. There are a lot of RINOs in the Senate, but it only takes 40 conservatives to filibuster. Whether or not they will find their balls long enough to filibuster remains to be seen, but at least they will have the opportunity.

If the Democrats keep control of the Senate, then there will be no filibusters of anything unless Harry Reid wants there to be a filibuster. He unilaterally abolished filibusters of all Obama appointments except Supreme Court appointments. The only reason he did not include Supreme Court appointments is that there were none pending. As soon as the next vacancy occurs, if conservatives start to mount a filibuster then he will unilaterally abolish Supreme Court filibusters as well.

Obama's cabinet appointments will be gone when the next president is sworn in, but his judicial appointments will be legislating from the bench for the next 30 years.

So, do you see the re-institution of the filibuster rule by the GOP?

If they do that, then they will be subject to it in 2016. They may not do that.

If the Republicans retake the Senate next month, there is no reason for them not to reinstate the filibuster rule for Obama appointments. Then in 2016, if the Republicans hold on to the Senate and a Republican is elected President, then they can always abolish it again. If the Democrats retake the Senate in 2016, then the Democrats will do whatever the hell they want regardless of what the Republicans do now.

If the Republicans do retake the Senate, I would really like to see them have the balls to reinstate the filibuster for Obama appointments but abolish it for legislation (or make the Democrats do good old fashioned Mr. Smith Goes to Washington filibusters where they have to talk nonstop until they drop). That way the Democrats could not do anything to stop the Republicans from passing legislation through both the House and Senate and sending it straight to Obama.

Sure Obama would veto everything, but he would have to spend the next two years vetoing legislation, making it really hard for the Democrats to run in 2016 complaining about the Republicans not doing anything. The 2016 Republican Presidential candidate can run on the issue of stopping Democrat obstruction.

As an added bonus, the Democrats and the lamestream media branch of the Democrat Party would have an absolute conniption fit.

The Republicans need to stop letting the Democrats set the bar on what is acceptable for the Senate majority party to do.
