The Islamic State claimed credit for today's suicide attack in Baghdad that killed Ahmed al Khafaji, who was a senior commander in the Shiite Badr militia and a member of parliament, along with at least 20 other Iraqis. Khafaji's death was confirmed by another member of Iraq's parliament as well as by a hospital official.
"Khafaji was a member of the main Shiite bloc in parliament, the State of Law coalition, of which Prime Minister Haidar al Abadi's Dawa party is also part," AFP reported.
The Islamic State said that Khafaji was the target of the suicide attack, which was executed by "members of the Islamic State's security and intelligence department of Baghdad province," according to statements released by the group on Twitter that were obtained and translated by the SITE Intelligence Group. The suicide bomber was identified as "Abu 'Aisha al Badri al Husseini al Qurashi al Samara'ee."
The jihadist group described Khafaji as "the Member of Parliament for Badr Brigade, this Rafidhi [Shiite] faction that has long fought the Muslims and waded deep in their blood."
The assassination of Khafaji took place just two days after the Islamic State killed the top police general for Anbar province in an IED attack just outside of Ramadi in Anbar province.

ISIS...Drones? We got human drones!
The “ISIS” attackers in Iraq are mostly disgruntled Sunnis, former bitter Republican Guards and Saddam era officials who are providing in administrative infrastructure. Their goal is to reestablish the position and dominance they once held in Iraq. When Saddam was consolidating his power he employed the same terror tactics that ISIS is currently doing. However he was not a fanatical Muslim and was not genocidal per se. If ISIS is to be stopped in Iraq, it will be up to Shi’ite Iran to forcefully intervene. It is not clear that the “ISIS” fighting in Iraq is the same organization fighting in Syria. Its very questionable that those leading ISIS in Iraq have the same caliphate ideology as those in Syria. However could be wrong.
somebody needs to wade in there and take out their Abu Bakr al Baghdadi
I suspect that Muqtada Al-Sadr is feeling a bit queasy these days.
I’ve forgotten about him. Wasn’t he an ‘up and coming’ Taliban War Lord? Lot’s of competition now for regional control.
You might be thinking of Mullah Omar. Muqtada Al-Sadr is a Shiite leader who was responsible for a lot of attacks that killed American military personnel in Iraq.
I’m watching all this with a sickening mixture of glee and apprehension, as at least Muslims are killing each other. But who do they slaughter next?
Its pretty clear they aren’t going to be stopped.
Only question is how many friendlies make it out of the Green Zone before it’s overrun.
They are going to chase us right out of our Embassy and the US propagandists in the press will ignore the story.
The press lost their right to freedom when they chose to side with the CPUSA and will be dealt with.
Are you kidding?...whoever gets the film of the people abandoning the US Embassy in Baghdad will get rich...every “news” outlet will run with that film 24/7 and all the commies in the press will gasp with glee!
