Metro driver has been quarantined and the bus he was operated taken out of service after a masked passenger began yelling, "Don't mess with me, I have Ebola!"

Metro officials said they are working with Los Angeles County sheriff's transit authorities to review surveillance footage taken from inside the bus to determine the identity of the masked passenger, who was accompanied by a woman, Metro spokesman Marc Littman said.

The Monday afternoon incident is being investigated as a possible terrorist threat because of the fear it incited, he said. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials don't believe the rider has Ebola and believe the incident was a hoax, spokeswoman Sarah Kissell Garrett said

If that was the kind of character I think it was, some low classer, looking for a free bus ride, what he probably said was “Don’t F%%k with me! I have Ebola!”. Therefore what? What did he get out of scaring people other that a free place to park his bum?

Next: TSA regulations equating such utterances as the equivalent as saying “I have a bomb” on aircraft. Hundreds of millions of dollars for training bus drivers.

What an overreaction.

Now any yahoo who wants to shut down a government building or put someone under quarentine just has to don a mask and shout “I have ebola!”.

Remember the white powder/anthrax days?

Every epidemic has two fronts:

The pathogen

and

the Fear.

Right now the fear epidemic is winning hands down.

The bus driver should have stopped the bus called it in and told everyone to get off and wait for another bus instead of driving everybody around in case the idiot that yelled might actually have obola, besides being retarded.

Just like the TSA. Our government would rather be stupidly over reactive than effective. They won't ban flights or shut down the borders, but they will inconvenience hordes of people for some stupid prank.

Ugh - I hate this! This is like the idiot that just did this on the plane the other day. What would make someone do something like this?

Note that it doesn't matter if the person has Ebola or not. People who wanted to shut down our society could go screaming this in public transit in all our big cities.

Of course, they wouldn't be able to claim that if Obola had closed the borders and turned away any planes coming from hellholes like Liberia and Sierra Leone.

officials don't believe the rider has Ebola and believe the incident was a hoax

He probably thought he had a fever but it was actually global warming.

“What an overreaction.”

I would be more concerned if he had announced he had scabies.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

This kind of nut job is everywhere these days, but Los Angeles (and California in general) seems to have FAR more than its share.

I’m not much of a fighter, but if I was on a bus and some idiot yelled that he had Ebola, I would do my best to beat the living crap out of him.
