Alex Salmond exposed as bully boy
Daily Express ^ | 12th October 2014 | Greg Christison

'ALEX Salmond attempted to bully the BBC over the pre-referendum television debates and demanded a "formal invitation", a secret dossier has revealed.

The Sunday Express has uncovered an astonishing chain of emails in which the First Minister's office ordered the broadcaster to "review" plans for his clash with Better Together chief Alistair Darling.

During the heated exchange, Corporation bosses were lambasted by the SNP leader's chief of staff for a "lack of ambition" and failing to take the issue of independence seriously.

And, in what could be seen as an amazing display of self-importance, it was stipulated Mr Salmond must be served with a "formal invitation" before even considering the head-to-head.

Last night, critics said the revelations provided evidence that, while publicly voicing his desire to participate in the televised debates, Mr Salmond was acting like a "theatrical diva" behind the scenes.

Tensions between the Scottish Government and the BBC ramped up to previously unseen proportions during the referendum campaign.

It came to a head when Mr Salmond turned on political editor Nick Robinson during a press conference and then appeared to back protests outside the Corporation's Glasgow HQ.

The documents came to light following a Freedom of Information request which the Government refused to answer within the guideline of 20 working days.

It was only after we asked the Scottish Information Commissioner to review their conduct that the emails were released on Wednesday - 93 days after our initial request.'

Thank God he and his fellow fascists didn’t manage to convince the Scots to follow him into the abyss.

Is it worth knowing?

Amen.

When push came to shove, the Scots showed they had common sense and didn’t fall to emotion. And for all the ‘we are the 45’ (how ironic) hype, imo next year, we will see a resurgence of pro-Union parties. I fear more SNP so much, that as a Tory/UKIP voter/supporter, and conservative, I will happily take a Labour win up here.

He really didn’t need to bully the BBC. They did their usual bend-over-backward-to-show-we’re-neutral routine with its minefield of politically correct gobbledegook and timed-to-the-second interviews and coverage of both sides.

But the BBC couldn’t and shouldn’t have been neutral. They stood to lose a huge chunk of their funding if Scotland refused to pay into the BBC after secession (not ‘independence,’ as one writer correctly pointed out) as well as the loss of viewership. They are not commercially-funded but state (or trust) funding certainly considers ratings when it’s time for budgeting. What if a competitor SBC had been formed?

But traitorous attitudes and acts come easily to leftists eager to portray their home nation as oppressive, plutocratic, etc. so the BBC were in their element.

Frankly, I’m surprised that Salmond was able to muster any support through persuasion or threats. He wouldn’t answer basic questions about basic functions of government because he had no answers, no plans, no framework. Like so many of his lefty comrades, including Obama, he truly believed that speeches full of platitudes were a legitimate substitute.

“We are the 45” —— they really used that as a slogan?

I really think those folks in the eighteenth century had more gumption than our current crop.

(saw Culloden forty odd years ago; found it to be a very depressing place)

I was doing some research as part of something I was going to put out there for the sake of my fellow unionists in Scotland about how to vote tactically, and the thing that surprised me most was that the Tories came second in most of the constituencies which returned SNP MPs in 2010. Talk about tartan Tories. We will see how many will still vote now the indyref is settled and the hard leftist tax policies of the SNP come to the fore now that they have been given new powers.

Its more like the 37% actually, when you consider how many of the actual electorate voted for them.

The irony is that in 1746, as in 2014, the ‘cause’ lost, and like 2014, more Scots OPPOSED him (inc both sides of my family) than supported him.

If you can tolerate bodice ripping along with your historical drama, you might want to catch the 1st season of "Outlander".

The first 8 episodes are largely set in the years leading up to the final conflict between the Highlanders and the Redcoats.

Warning: It's produced by the Starz network, so some parts are very graphic.
