Back in 1994 the GOP ran Conservative in platform with "The Contract With America" which after the election and GOP takeover was passed. Who wrote most of that bill? It was Newt. He pushed it and helped get it passed.
Enter one John Boehner and another congressman from New York state who were moderate/liberal. John says Newt has to go and Bill if you help you can be Speaker. There were several more involved. Bill Paxon got together with Boehner, House Majority Leader Dick Armey, House Majority Whip Tom DeLay, and had a meeting to discuss it. Armey balked and sent word to Newt. Do you realize Boehner's stunt could have made Gephart the Speaker?
This as such ended the Conservative control of the House and any hope for a Conservative agenda. Obviously Newt saw what was coming down being Hoodwinked by his own party and quit. Yes it goes back that far.
For 18 years now Conservatives have tried to play nice with the GOP-E. Wiz on strategy. The GOP-E strategy is loyalty to K-Street interest not ours or even our nation. If it takes whining, complaining, or sending smoke signals to be rid of Boehner and his ilk from control of the direction of congress so be it.
Do you know why the 1996 Convention looked and sounded like a Circus Freak Show? Remember the two women speakers besides Libby Dole? Liberals ran it including guess who? One of the keynote speakers was the spouse to one fixing to unseat Newt. Guess what man and wife are doing today? Lobbying.
Change must come and that means a radical change in the GOP leadership in both houses. The It's his/her/ turn crap has to stop and disciplined Conservative leaders take their place. Majority or Minority it doesn't matter this has to happen soon. The GOP actually fought like they had a spine before the 1997 GOP-E takeover of the house and senate leadership. Now the one trick they know to do is roll over and play dead.
