Party politics are controlled by activists. Political party participation is open to anyone at the precinct, convention, state and national level. Far more big city liberals take advantage of this participation than do middle-American conservatives. To win the ideological fight, conservatives must get inside the party structure through a door mostly open and defeat liberalism. When I first went to precinct meetings in the 70's in Houston, George and Barbara Bush would be there. I think he was still in the oil business.
You are so right...it starts at the precinct level. Sitting at computers and gripeing about the GOPe doesn't do any good. Going to Precinct meetings and getting your like-minded people elected to voting positions is the only was to beat Karl Rove.
The elites have done it for decades.
