Liberian Community in Texas Raises Concerns About Dallas Ebola Patient's Treatment

The death of Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian man who was the first patient in the U.S. to die of Ebola, is stirring debate in the Dallas Liberian community about whether there has been a difference in the quality of treatment between American and African patients with Ebola at U.S. hospitals.

Stanley Gaye, president of the Liberia Community Association in Dallas, said people have contacted him about concerns that Duncan was treated differently “because he was African and not only that, he was Liberian.”

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital explained today in detail how they cared for Duncan, including assigning 50 people to help with Duncan's care and securing an entire intensive care unit for Duncan.

However, Gaye told ABC News that one of the biggest concerns expressed by the Liberian community was that Duncan was allowed to leave that hospital on Sept. 25 even though he had early Ebola symptoms and had told a nurse there that he had recently traveled from West Africa....

Then they should go home and see what the treatment is like there.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Ponder the Irony of “Liberian Immigrants” to America for a moment.

Bad penny...

Yeah, I agree with them - America is so “racist” that they’d be better off going home to Liberia.

They are not fleeing a nation that has them under the gun (like supposedly the little latino nicaraguan wave of illegals sans parents).

They were probably fleeing the civil war that raged in Liberia for years. The original inhabitants of Liberia did not like the descendants of American slaves living in the same country. I don't know if you ever heard of Charles Taylor, but he was a major figure in that whole mess.

The reason that the Liberian health care system is so inadequate (and Ebola keeps going) is that the country was decimated by the civil war. It was slowly getting better, but Ebola might have reversed any progress. This is why we need to stop Ebola over there--not because it is a health risk to other countries (it isn't), but because unstable politics tend to become everyone's problem.

So, this guy lies about contact with Ebola in Liberia. Then he comes to this country, and has the chance to say, “I came in contact with a dead body in an ebola area in Liberia”, and he doesn’t do so.

His death, therefore, is the fault of racism. Sounds like it’s the fault of not telling the whole truth to people who needed to know.

"Liberia was established by citizens of the United States as a colony for former African American slaves and their free black descendants"

Now fleeing Liberia back to the place their great grandparents came from. "Liberia" indeed.

Ship them home. We paid to send their great great grandfathers there. Guess we’ll have to pay twice, although we didn’t ask them to come back.

If we deport the illegal aliens who would Obama ride with to his big speeches.

Just think about it. A pResident who takes an oath to protect the LEGAL American people against this type of lawlessness RIDES to a speech with ILLEGAL INVADERS.

Why is our other elected officials not calling for his head? Why??????

“and i no longer give even half a damn”

Same here.

Allen West has been using “democrat plantation” because he recognizes blacks voting themselves back into slavery is true.
