Liberian Community in Texas Raises Concerns About Dallas Ebola Patient's Treatment
ABC News ^ | October 9, 2014 | Gillian Mohney

The death of Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian man who was the first patient in the U.S. to die of Ebola, is stirring debate in the Dallas Liberian community about whether there has been a difference in the quality of treatment between American and African patients with Ebola at U.S. hospitals.

Stanley Gaye, president of the Liberia Community Association in Dallas, said people have contacted him about concerns that Duncan was treated differently “because he was African and not only that, he was Liberian.”

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital explained today in detail how they cared for Duncan, including assigning 50 people to help with Duncan's care and securing an entire intensive care unit for Duncan.

However, Gaye told ABC News that one of the biggest concerns expressed by the Liberian community was that Duncan was allowed to leave that hospital on Sept. 25 even though he had early Ebola symptoms and had told a nurse there that he had recently traveled from West Africa....

They say they’re just coming for the reparations earned by their ancestors. :)

Yea, such terrible treatment. The hospital only spent 500,000 dollars trying to keep this utterly inconsiderate of infecting and killing others, lying, Ebola infected illegal alien alive.

HE DIDN'T BELONG HERE, HE WAS NOT AND IS NOT AMERICA'S RESPONSIBILITY.

In spite of a HALF A MILLION DOLLARS SPENT ON KEEPING THIS EBOLA INFECTED LAW BREAKER ALIVE they are still not satisfied!

These black-racist race baiters should be utterly ashamed of themselves. But this is a moot point because they have no shame... it's all "whities falt"... "Show me the money!"

Truly. The Liberian Constitution mimics the US one. We created in essence Liberia.

When they talk about a “Liberian” community in Texas— these people are mostly here illegally. They have no rights to be expressed or addressed. Except they should be deported.
The country knows this, Texas knows this, ICE knows this, DHS knows this. So.... what is it that allows these people to stay here. They are not fleeing a nation that has them under the gun (like supposedly the little latino nicaraguan wave of illegals sans parents). How is it they can stay here.

We must get our immigration under control. The simple fact is these and many many others should be shipped out. Period.
This is criminal and now it is also bio-terrorism to let them stay and encourage others to come in and continue to infect.

I knew the son of a former slave and he would say if given the chance the black man would vote himself back into slavery.

He was right, they will come running back to the democrat plantation.

They are here as refugees of the civil war. I don't have any particular angst against him like most of the commenters under that article but he did lie.

Plus they may speak with an accent which is hard to understand. It cost the hospital a dedicated ICU ward, 50 personnel, $500K. And you know they did everything they possibly could. The photographer in Omaha is getting the same experimental medicine, made by Chimerix, as Thomas Duncan got.

So far his selfishness hasn't killed anybody else we know about. And the Liberians may be more civilized than you know where I am going with that.

They get Section 8 housing and aren't citizens. My daughter has been homeless (I took her in for 9 months; we don't get along), Section 8 waiting list is 8 years here. So is it for elderly housing but I won't qualify for a subsidy which is fine, just have to plan differently.

More and more people are starting to really resent them and their attitudes. Nobody seems to like Jesse Jackson. I guess he can't handle a real job. A lot of countries wouldn't put up with their $hit.

Ponder the Irony of “Liberian Immigrants” to America for a moment.

Yeah...How 'bout dat?

Why would black Africans, who leave countries in which they are in the majority, come to a racist bigoted America, if this is such a bigoted racist discriminatory country???

They come for the Obamaphone. It's that irresistible.

...one of the biggest concerns expressed by the Liberian community was that Duncan was allowed to leave that hospital on Sept. 25 even though he had early Ebola symptoms ...

Scandal: Wealthy Obama Donor Behind Epic Ebola Fail

Last week, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital revealed in a statement that a procedural flaw in its online health records system led to potentially deadly miscommunication between nurses and doctors. The facility sent Ebola victim Thomas Duncan home despite showing signs of the disease -- only to admit him with worse symptoms three days later.

Here's what I can tell you for sure: Texas Health contracts with Epic Systems for its electronic medical records system -- and the Dallas hospital isn't the only client that has complained about its costly information-sharing flaws and interoperability failures.

Won’t be much longer until it’s on. I’ve read the book countless times and seen the movie about as many. Never gets old.

The Obamacare software was faulty. Duncan probably would have been hospitalized the first time. However, when he first went to the hospital, the information he gave the nurse about his coming from Liberia didn’t get to the doctor. There was no racism.

That’s what I want to know. WHY do they come here??? If it’s so horrible GTFO. The Arabs have many countries in the Middle East in which share the same or similar culture to each other. The Africans have a beautiful resource-rich continent with millions of their own kind/culture. The Mexicans and other Latin/Hispanic people have much of North America with plenty of land, etc. Even the Polish are immigrating here at a high rate...they have a very large presence in the Dells, where I spent every summer as a kid. (not that I have a problem with Polish enterpreneurs and hard-workers) but what I’m saying is I don’t understand why all these people want to live here?

This helps explain why Obama wants these infections here. It is politically powerful for him. He gets more fear in the public from the disease, AND stirs up the race card at the same time. Now Americans have a legitimate fear to have of West African immigrants. It is terrifying to think that the only thing standing between us and a full blown outbreak is the Liberian government.

A hint to the Liberian community: The phrase you are trying to find is “thank you”.

We just spent $500,000 trying to save the life of a man who lied and broke laws to enter our country, knowing that he had certainly been exposed to Ebola and likely infected and that his travel here would put us and our children at risk. You should say “thank you” to the taxpayers who got the bill for this dangerous criminal act.

Just as our doctors who leave their families for months at a time to save West African lives in this outbreak still usually fail in your home country, our local doctors also failed in this case. It happens. You should say “thank you” to the doctors who risked their lives and their families to save a liar and a criminal, because they saw him as a human being and not just an outsider who made multiple dangerous decisions.
