It stopped because government is not good at making a distinction between needy and lazy. It taught moms not to marry the father of their kids because that would reduce their welfare benefits. Welfare invited people to be dependent.

I retired from the military in 2011 and really don't need to work. I got a part time job several months ago. It was supposed to be minimum wage, but after I talked to the manager he started me out much higher.

He has two more openings now, and has a hard time getting applications. Some people are just too lazy to work. I've asked several other retired people if they want a part time job. Not much luck, even though that is what he wants.

I have an Indian friend (dot, not feather) who owns a service station/convenience store. He offered me a job, full or part time, my choice, I hadn't asked or even hinted that I was looking for a job. I very politely thanked him but turned him down.

I'm 69, retired for 15 years and definitely not looking for a job.
