The data is self-reported by water agencies with 3,000 or more customers. Together, the reporting agencies serve 33.5 million Californians, or roughly 87 percent of the states population.
Gov. Jerry Brown called on Californians to reduce water use by 20 percent when he declared a drought emergency in January. Californians could face further restrictions if the drought worsens and the coming winter fails to produce adequate snow and rainfall.
Marcus says the board is focused on pushing hesitant cities to conserve as much as they can for worse-case-scenarios, rather than achieving an across-the-board 20 percent cut in water use.
A similar voluntary survey showed water use actually increased by 1 percent in May. Since then, mandatory reporting shows monthly water use has declined by 4.4 percent in June and 7.5 percent in July.

But hey, at least they still have that freakin snail crawling around.
if jerry was really smart, he’d’take that’high speed rail money and build desalination plants. that would be a useful legacy to leave. which is why of course this isn’t even in the room where the radar is located.
I know that we have been getting 100 degree temps at my place, and I have small fruit trees in half whiskey barrels, but I don’t how I burned through 1400 gallons of water this past month.
Did my part
I’m getting my car washed once a month...
Snowboarding season changes that...
Next step:
The water agencies will have to RAISE RATES, to cover the shortfall in revenue due to pumping less water. Gotta cover that Union payroll and retirements, doncha know.
Water utility here did that a few years ago. Of course, when the drought ended, the rates stayed at the new, higher rate.
This puny reduction in water use is pathetic. If you drive through southern california you’ll see green lawns everywhere. Yet this region of 25 million people has no native source of fresh water. IT’S A FREAKIN’ DESERT!! Turn off the aqueducts from the north and the water from the Colorado River and you will just have sagebrush. That’s how God intended it.
Probably due to businesses leaving the state and farms going bankrupt from the artificial man made drought.

Well, Cali folks wanted to see “open space.” Let ‘em see it where they live.
Beer for my horses...
“if jerry was really smart, hedtake thathigh speed rail money and build desalination plants”
Exactly. But no, we have to build a high speed rail so the illegals can move around more rapidly in the Central Valley. Just pure craziness.
It's been that way in every drought since I was a kid.
All right you Californians...on the count of three, flush the toilets!!

^ this +1
Just terrible. No wonder California socialists don't want people be armed, they might act out against the true enemies of the state.
Last bill shocked me, it was way low, either a mistake or.. A dyslexic meter reader.. I wish.
Next one should be great, we aren’t around for three weeks.. And in case any lurkers see that, we have attack tortoises in the house and backyard.. With iPhones.
WE run 1.6 gallon ToTos here at home, just put a 1.28 gallon Cadet in a condo we’re unloading.. Works great, Trust me!
Shower head has been low flo for ages.. Our upstairs
Piping sucks and needs to go but we probably save with the pipes clogged too..
I was thinking about it today, my bill says that I am using about 48 gallons of water a day, but probably a little more than half of that usage comes from watering plants outside.
I stopped watering.
My fruit trees are still bearing big time.
