JERUSALEM (JTA) The Israeli government will send three mobile emergency clinics to western Africa in an effort to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus.
Medical experts will be attached to each clinic sent by Mashav-Israels Agency for International Development Cooperation, a part of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The staffers will train local health care workers in the operation of the clinic and its equipment, the ministry said in a statement.
In addition, staff training will focus on raising awareness among populations with high potential for infection.
An Israeli team has already been sent to Cameroon. The ministry also sent emergency equipment to the government of Sierra Leone, and in recent weeks shipped personal protection equipment to teams of the African Union.
Last week, the Israeli government reportedly denied a U.S. request to assist in medical relief in Ebola-stricken West African countries.
Meanwhile, the Israeli nongovernmental organization IsraAid met this week with the first lady of Sierra Leone and is in discussions with authorities there about how to provide psychological and social counseling and increase local health awareness.
IsraAid founder Shachar Zahavi told JTA that his organization is also in the process of recruiting medical personnel to join those treating the affected areas in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
In the coming months, IsraAid plans to send over 30 experts in post-traumatic stress disorder prevention and stress management to West Africa to train local social workers and health workers.

For your interest.
Ha ha-thanks.
Why did they change their minds?
How many medical teams have the Saudis sent?
How about the Iranians?
Or the Pakistanis?
Or the Indonesians?
Obama’s earlier invite to Israel to join the US in fighting ebola in Africa was an attempt to set up Israel for blame when Muzzies would attack the joint mission.
And maybe the Israelis just don’t trust an Obama mission to do what it claims to be doing.
Anyway, Israelis probably have better information on Africa than the US government.
Why would Israel have better information on Africa than the Unites States military?
Personal contacts on all kinds of levels for several generations now.
Or maybe the Israelis just want it to be their own mission instead of following an American mission. Another way of poking a stick in Obama’s eye.
I don’t get it. Israel is a teeny tiny country with mere millions population. However, they have giant hearts compared to their arab neighbors. A billion arabs can’t contribute but a small fraction of what Israel contributes towards helping others. Arabs sure know how to maim, torture and kill. Compassion is not in the arab heart.
Yeah, America as well, and we have a massive intelligence and military presence throughout much of Africa.
Israel walks what they talk...always above and beyond..
The context is that the Israelis turned down the American ‘offer’ citing safety concerns.
Talk about a poke in the eye!
As I read this, Israelis are sending supplies to ebola-stricken countries and teams into Cameroon to train medical personnel.
Cameroon closed it’s border with Nigeria in August. Smart.
Only Obola would send humans into ebola country. Israelis seem smarter.
Maybe Israel can find a remedy for yet another bug.
It’s inevitable that ebola will leave Africa, Israel is a lot closer and easier to make it to from the ebola zone, than crossing the Atlantic Ocean to get to the United States. They have all the reason to want the outbreak to be brought under control.
They didn’t, Israel’s defense minister refused to send the IDF, this is humanitarian aid and teams.
