A would-be robbery suspect was beaten up when he found out the hard way that a convenience store clerk on the University of Pittsburgh campus is also a former Golden Gloves boxing champ.
The boxer, Eric Sydnor, told KDKA-TV he just did what he had to do when 45-year-old Leverett Johnson walked into the convenience store with a gun Saturday night.
"He got slammed," Sydnor told the station.
Johnson was still in the hospital Tuesday, recovering from the beating Sydnor administered, police said.

I love when that happens.
Hospital for three days? Yup, a beatdown.
Will he get fired before or after the crook files a lawsuit against the store?
No pictures of the “victim?”
I used to go to the Golden Gloves event every year in Des Moines. There was a really talented young boxer named Lamont Lovelady (believe it or not.)
I got into the ring with a Jr Golden Glove (before he joined) when I was in the Army in Germany. I decided to help him train for an upcoming fight by getting into the ring with him and being a practice buddy. There were a couple of others and we each went half a round. Dude could hit you so hard that I could feel the shock wave travel through my body.
Not a fun experience and I passed on being his ring buddy for the next fight.
There is a “before” picture on the local CBS site (in the video): http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2014/10/06/robber-attempts-to-hold-up-boxing-champion-clerk/
“Leverett Johnson”.........Do I have to say it?
Three days in the hospital and counting? Now that’s a real tune-up.
ABC could report this one, no guns involved. So I guess we should all be expert boxers, for self-defense. (But kudos to the guy who had that talent, and used it well).
The first thing I observe when knocking over a convenience store is whether the clerk can kick my ass or not.
Attitude Adjustment!
I love it!
Same thing happened in Leander, Texas several years ago. Thug from Austin ended up in the ER and hospitalized for about a week after getting himself mauled by a former boxer. He almost didn’t make it, but the docs got him out of the coma and he wound up in prison.
My Navy Vet older bro was a 17 yr old bantam weight Golden Gloves boxer - one night after the gym two black guys followed him off the bus and tried to rob them - he beat both unconscious and then called the cops. If you’ve got the punch and the criminal doesn’t see it coming - BOOM! - there is nothing sweeter.
