Following reports that someone infected with Ebola has turned up in his home state of Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz on Thursday asked the Federal Aviation Administration to “take every available precaution in preventing additional cases from arriving in the United States.”
The FAA so far has responded to concerns about Ebola by saying it is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is taking the lead on responding to the threat.
“Due to the Obama administration’s unclear approach to addressing the threat of the Ebola virus, Americans — particularly the Texans who have possibly been exposed — deserve specific answers to how the administration is addressing travel to and from the countries impacted by the disease,” Cruz said in a statement that accompanied the letter.

In his letter, the Republican senator requests answers to a litany of questions, including what kind of training air crews receive that would help them recognize someone infected with Ebola, the extent to which the FAA intends to act to limit or suspend flights, the notification rights of passengers who may have shared a plane with an Ebola sufferer, and any projections of how many additional people infected with Ebola could arrive in the United States via air.
Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) also chimed in Thursday evening, saying it’s “appropriate to review our policies for travel to and from the countries most affected by the Ebola outbreak.”

Yeah, but there’s an entire ideology and political party that thinks it’s only fair that the US be subject to a third world epidemic.
Nice biased headline from Politico, I see.
“Victims kept away”!!
While the talkies, talk radio show hosts, need to remind “US” of this.. Members of the House and Senate also seem to forget. While those selected to head various federal departments of government are recomended by the incomming POTUS (president of the United States). Those candidates are constitutionaly required to be approved by the Senate in a procedure known as advise and consent.. Those appointed then are also sworn to uphold, protect, and support the constitution. Not the executive branch. .
Therefore they and their respective departments are answerable to both houses of congress which funds these operations and can and should refuse any executive order if that order works contrary to existing legislation which expands its jurisdiction or against the interests of the country ..
Dear Senator Cruz,
It should go without saying that symptomatic passengers should never board a plane. The administration’s spokesclown said they are relying on departure control, I presume in Europe as much as in West Africa. But I didn’t hear anyone ask him exactly who was performing these controls. Outsourcing Ambassadorial security to the February 17 Brigade suddenly pops to mind, but I digress.
That said, to not have OUR customs at least do an additional screen upon arrival is ludicrous. We’re told symptoms do not appear for 8 to 9 days, correct? So there could be hundreds of infected people sailing right through these minimal, cursory checks, and headed to all parts of our country.
What then, Senator Cruz; what then Mr. pResident? What will you tell the survivors? I’m betting they won’t buy it.
